A magical experience. Elizabeth is a warm, knowledgeable host. Saw long dong silver spire and the bentonite hills but she also added a petrified dinosaur bone and an ancient seed store. She also scored a perfect ten on naming every desert plant I had photographed Hope all of you will have a chance to experience this unbeatable experience: otherworldly scenery and great company!

We booked the Cathedral Valley Tour Full Day with the Waterpocket Adventure Company.

Jason picked us up at The Lodge at Red River Ranch.

His vehicle was spacious and comfortable.

We were able to see so much of the Capitol Reef National Park.

Booked a last minute tour with Waterpocket-so glad Jason was able to accommodate my husband & me. Took a half day tour of cathedral valley & it was fantastic! My husband usually drives , so this way he was able to sit back & enjoy the scenery. Jason is very knowledgeable about the valley , geology, & history of the area. It really was worth it. Capital Reef Park is amazing ! These backroads trips were beautiful & their history is quite interesting. Jason makes sure you are comfortable & is able to answer any questions you might have. He also showed us some dinosaur bones!

We had the good fortune of meeting Jason and his tour guests on 4/13. We had run across a free range cow that had sunk into the mud to her shoulders and had obviously been stuck there for a few days with her calf nearby. We couldn’t leave them to die. We flagged Jason and his tour group from the road and Jason took his shoes off and dug in literally. We waved a few others down and 3 hours later we freed the cow from the mud and gave her water. Without Jason and his group I don’t know if we could have done this. Jason identified and followed up with the rancher and the cow and calf survived. Afterwards he stopped us to show us some dinosaur bones. When we go back to Capital Reed we will be booking a tour for sure! Can’t beat heart and knowledge!

We did the full day tour of the cathedral valley. Jason was very knowledgeable and a great tour guide. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Capitol Reef National Park.

Jason drove us over an hour deep into Cathedral Valley to the Temple of the Moon for Dark Sky Photography. We were STUNNED at the total darkness (you can’t see your feet). But, you can see thousands of stars, including the Milky Way and Andromeda. Awesome experience! My wife and I didn’t want to leave when it was time it was so amazing. Don’t do the drive yourself. Most likely your vehicle will not make it and there is no cell service.

I took some awesome Milky Way pictures, capturing the Galactic Center of the Milky Way. Attached are several pictures I took.

Earlier in the day, Jason took us in the Cathedral Valley and showed us various locations where dinosaur bones are fossilized in the big rocks. The bones included vertebrae, legs, and various other bones. Pretty cool. No one would ever find those bones without Jason. He KNOWS the territory for sure!

If you want to tour Cathedral Valley, do Dark Sky Photography, Jason is your guy.

Oh, you need to be responsible for your camera settings for nighttime photography. It is TOTALLY DARK. Normal settings will NOT work. Jason can help, but there are so many cameras and lenses which make it iffy for him know them all.
