Only stayed one night but enjoyed the room (dated but clean), service and location. It was peaceful out back watching the fish at the pier. Overpriced being that we were just looking for a few hours sleep but cheaper than others for this time of the year.

Stayed for four nights recently. Rather casual lodge on a lovely little bay. Pricey, but much less than in nearby Key West. Our room had close view of bay. Great (very pricey) South of Seven restaurant on the property. I believe only open for dinner. Would stay again.

If you’re looking for a truly vintage motel, with some original furnishings from perhaps the 60’s or 70’s…this is the place!
Yes, it is old and not the cleanest motel…but there’s just a unique vibe to it that feels like you’re stepping back in time a bit. Fantastic owners…super friendly.
If you’re old enough to remember the show Flipper, do some googling and you’ll find out about the history of the facility and the link it had to the dolphin trainer…very interesting stuff.
We would definitely stay there again.

We absolutely love the Sugarloaf lodge! It is quiet, and surrounded by exceptional views. The nature is exciting and they take great care of all the wildlife. It is a perfect place to stay with kids. There are endless activities and it is a hidden gem in the Florida Keys. They have everything on site including a delicious restaurant which we are so impressed by. Thank you so much Wayne, and Joe and Dane and everyone at Sugarloaf Lodge for your kind hospitality! We will recommend you to everyone. Hope to be back again soon, definitely! Great service. Exceptional customer service and friendliness. Everything you want in a vacation spot! I would like to also add that the property manager went out of his way to help us cross the busy road one day. I thought this was such a kind gesture. They really care about people and wildlife a lot at this spot! Absolutely go here for a great time! You will see amazing wildlife too!

I have been here a couple times with my family. Rooms are spacious and clean. Although this time that I went we have encountered a couple different bugs. Front desk can be a little impolite. But cleaning staff are very kind. Had a great view of the water and easy access to boat dock, pool, and free coffee and tea in the mornings downstairs.

Two of us high school girlfriends, class of 75, loved this place. Very retro. Clean & beds were compfy. A little north of Key West which was fine as price was more resonable. Found the Tiki Bar which was no longer in use. We grabbed a glass of wine from out room & sat at the abandoned Tiki bar which still had nice chairs & bar top, fun lights. If only the walls could talk. We imagined the good times that must have taken place there over the years. Spoke with the owners the next morning & got a bit more history. The pool area was also very clean. The place almost looks abandoned when you drive by as the rooms are in the back of the property near the water. If you like nistolgic places you will enjoy this.

Great lil spot, quiet yet close enough to Key West for me. Rooms are dated but I kinda like that.. reminds me of traveling when I was a kid with family.
