Took my girlfriend for her first seaplane ride and I have to say it has been one of her greatest experience ever. Tony is a professional pilot and good at what he does. Me being a pilot myself, I highly recommend taking the tour with Tony on his plane which is in great conditions. Lake county is really beautiful from the air….

I was a land-based (single, multi-engine commercial instrument) pilot that wanted to get his seaplane rating, and decided to use Tony as my instructor to teach me as well as prepare me for my FAA check ride. Tony really knows his stuff. I spent a Thursday and Friday working with him, learning how to fly "floats", which involves learning the many different types of takeoffs and landings required of seaplane pilots. as well as learning how to read water, how to taxi (more to it than you think, by the way), how to beach and how to dock. Lots of good emergency maneuver discussion and practice, too.

When I reviewed my logbook after the experience, I saw that I had a total of 46 practice takeoffs landings in only 5.5 hours of instruction. These included normal, confined, rough water, glassy water, crosswind and emergency. And Tony taught me until I understood and confidently flew each procedure.

I can't say enough good things about Tony. Not only does he know his stuff, he has a great way of imparting it to others in a format that's easily understood-- step by step. He had told me that it would be the most FUN aeronautical rating I'd ever get, and he was right! At times it was work-- but he made sure it was fun. And the equipment he has-- a Cessna 172 with Baumann 2550 floats-- is superb.

On the Saturday morning of my FAA check ride, Tony and I met at the plane, I took off with him and he helped me polish up a few last things for about 40 minutes. We landed at Lake Weir, and I did my paperwork and "orals" with my FAA designated pilot examiner (Tony had me well prepped), then with Tony watching from the sidelines, the examiner and I went for a check ride at Lake Weir.

After almost an hour of demonstrating different types of takeoffs, landings and water maneuvers, we taxied back. A bit more paperwork, and I was handed a shiny new commercial seaplane rating. Thanks Tony!
