When my husband and I entered Solvang we were both very happy, excited and impressed by what we immediately saw. However we realized that in order to get the most out of our visit to this wonderful town we needed to be organized! We were not planning to spend the night. We were just going to spend the day So we stopped at the Solvang Visitor Center to get our bearings and learn how to enjoy our day in Solvang. At the Center we were able to do all of that with the helpful paperwork we were given. We were able to find nice places to eat and shop. We were also able to enjoy seeing the windmills. I think we counted them twice as we meandered around the town! We purchased many gifts for ourselves and others. I am especially proud of the addition that I made to my collection of salt and pepper shakers! I strongly suggest that you visit the Solvang Visitor Center to get the most of your trip to see this amazing place!

Like the place, best month to visit probably in December with more lights, and better to visit lunch time til night. Lots of walking and more choice in foods and wine tasting.

Solving is a quaint little town along the Pacific Highway. We stopped on our way from SFO to LA. The town seems like it has been taken off from Holland and plonked in the middle of California. There are some beautiful shops seeking Dutch pastries, Dutch knick-knacks among others. There were some nice looking bars and restaurants but we did not venture into them as we were short of time. Definitely worth an afternoon’s visit.

By far one of the best places to visit in California, Solvang is a slice of Denmark in America. The structure of all buildings recalls the original form of Danish architecture. The streets are perhaps the cleanest you’ll ever see in any city or town. Every corner features a bakery with mouth-watering delicatessens derived from Danish goods. The authenticity of this place is remarkable and the history behind Solvang is as rich and endearing. Taking the trolley should perhaps be the first thing to do after plucking a Solvang map from the visitor’s center. In that trolley ride (sometimes they utilize two horses), you’ll be treated to a pleasant tour around Solvang as your guide explains the rich history behind each architect and all of Solvang in general. Afterward, just stroll on your merry way, visiting all or as many shops and bakeries as you can get to. In reality, exploring all of Solvang, from its shops to its museums (nearly all of which are free) to its bakeries, should take you a whole 8 hours. This is the best day trip to take whether a native of California who’s tired of seeing Hollywood and Disneyland or an out-of-stater looking to see what else California holds aside from the generic theme parks and national forests. Solvang is beautiful and the small town vibes are heavily felt. Be aware though that by 6:00 or so, most if not all the shops do close, so get in as much shopping as you can before daylight’s end! As for Solvang, CA, I cannot recommend this beautifully remarkable little town more. It’s a place I would return to many many times just to take it in. Grade: A+ (side note: try them abbleskievers! They’re pretty good)

Really elegant town! Lovely Scandinavian style houses in the Bay area of US. It’s like a new breeze out of those modern city.
We passed here on our way to LA, and the town is so cute that we have to stop to awe at it. We walked around, bought some trinkets and souvenirs, enjoyed the free Christmas themed music on the street with the local snacks. It was a good experience!

This place in California seems to have been lifted straight away from Denmark!
Conceived and built by 3 Danish immigrants in 1911, the town has been maintained exactly like a Danish town with streets, windmills, bakeries, restaurants, shoe shops, parks, trolley buses, townhall etc which will make you smile!
A trolley bus will take you around the important landmarks of this town.
All in all a delightful experience!

A beautiful small town along the pacific coast featuring Denmark style and traditions. Thought a little bit too commercialized and over developed, still it's a great place to visit, have fun, walk around to feel Danish culture. The visitor center has lots of information, the central Anderson Park is nice to rest, the sweets are good to eat(warning...easy to eat too much!), and the windmills are typical symbol for the town. The city also has many historical buildings, even a small museum. There are plenty of free parkings here, on the streets or in the parking lot. Worth to stop by and enjoy the walking and shopping.

This was my first time visiting Solvang, and the employees at the visiting center were so kind. They explained the events that were being held that afternoon and explained the cities map for me since I was a bit confused. Thanks to them, I was able to walk and enjoy my visit in a timely manner.
