Made arrangements for a private forest tour as a surprise birthday gift for my wife. Enjoyed an outstanding 3 hour, 5 mile hike around Otter Lake on a beautiful morning with vibrant Fall season color. Also brought along our chocolate lab, Maggie, who eagerly led the way. Julie was/is an awesome tour guide with extensive knowledge of all flora and fauna. We enjoyed seeing a wide variety of native plants including cedar, fir, white pine, tamarack, maple, oak, birch, ferns, assorted ground cover, etc and even taste tested wild wintergreen. We encountered spawning King salmon, a wild grouse, a barred owl feasting on prey, black squirrels and heard numerous other bird species that Julie quickly identified. Also learned about the hazards of Marl Springs. My wife said, “best birthday gift ever”! Many thanks to Julie for a truly wonderful experience!

First, if I could give this more than 5 stars, I would at least double it! My husband and I traveled to Traverse City for a conference he was attending, so we had heard and read about the Sleeping Bear Dunes and booked an extra day just to experience them. We found Sleeping Bear Tour Company from other reviews and were so fortunate to have the experience with tour guide, Julie. She made sure the tour was what WE wanted it to be, but we would never have seen or appreciated the natural beauty and history of the area without her knowledge and love she has for Sleeping Bear Dunes. She was dedicated to making sure we got everything we wanted out of it and more - even to the point of taking pictures of us at every turn! When we asked about other things we could do for the rest of the day, she was quick to recommend other areas to explore, and we did just that!
I'd be hard pressed to think that there could be any other guide company around to be so caring about their customers' experience!!

My family and I really enjoyed our Sleeping Bear Dunes forest hike with Julie. It was a relaxing 3 hour hike at a moderate pace where we learned about lots of the flora and fauna that make up the landscape of Northern Michigan. Even some knowledge of the Native American people were discussed. Julie was great about answering questions and taking breaks as needed. Even our dog, Elsa, had a great time!

Our family of 4 with young adults enjoyed our three hour private hike immensely. We gained new knowledge while getting exercise with beautiful scenery. Our group of seniors from Ohio absolutely loved our full afternoon tour provided by Julie. She was so full of love for the surrounding wildlife and nature that it was contagious. Julie was proud that our group participated in all the dune climbs and beach walking. We all wanted to be like Julie! My experience with the Sleeping Bear Tour Co. was FANTASTIC! Julie was phenomenal, very patient with me as I arrived a little stressed because I was late. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the National Lakeshore and it’s evident that she loves what she does. I really appreciated her honor and respect for the indigenous cultures and history that are behind the national Lakeshore. I was lucky enough to be the only person on the tour with her and learned a ton about the endangered Piping Plover bird and the efforts to encourage their population growth. They’re adorable little birds that nest right on the sand by the water and we saw many of them! I got some amazing photos and without Julie and her Sleeping Bear Tour Company I wouldn’t have had such a great day after my tour because she gave me great tips! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Thank you, Julie!
