Trails were muddy and icy.

The road was almost completely clear of snow and ice except for about 100ft section. We did not need spikes to get get around.

The side trails to the points of interest, IE special rocks were pretty disappointing.

We visited the Carle Museum and took the which drive up the Holyoke Summit. It was beautiful! Parking was pretty easy also. I will say that the road to the summit house is closed for the season.

We had a great time hiking up to the summit house. We completed the round trip hike in about 2 hours. At the summit house, the park ranger was fantastic! He told us some basic information about the house, but did not ramble onto boredom. He stopped at the ideal time to allow for questions based on our interests. He answered our questions extremely well and was very nice. The summit house was great as well. This makes for a great adventure, either through hiking or walking.

Took the " easy way"(by walking the road) to summit from trailhead parking area. Was well cleared despite heavy leaf fall of late autumn.
Some level areas for resting if necessary.
Views of surrounding mountains and undulating river from well-maintained summit area are quite nice.

It’s been about 35 years since I was on the summit of Skinner Mountain. So I brought my husband there and we made our way to the top. The views did not disappoint at all! It was gorgeous! It was a perfect autumn day in New England. The views were spectacular and it was quiet. There’s something relaxing and serene about that trip up there today!

Beautiful mountain park overlooking the Connecticut River, Skinner is full of trails ranging from moderate to challenging, but all are doable if you’re in decent hiking shape. The highlight is undoubtedly the summit of Mt. Holyoke, where there’s numerous sweeping views of the Connecticut River Valley along with a historic summit house. The trail to get though, although steep, is relatively short and the round trip can be completed in under two hours. Fantastic way to spend some time outdoors on a nice day!

Skinner State Park is a gem in Massachusetts, offering incredible natural beauty and a peaceful escape from the bustle of daily life. The park is known for its amazing views, especially from the summit of Mount Holyoke, where visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramas of the Connecticut River Valley. Whether it’s the lush greenery in the summer, vibrant foliage in the fall, or snow-draped landscapes in the winter, the scenery here never disappoints.

This park is a great place to bring the family. With its well-maintained trails, there’s an option for everyone, from leisurely walkers to more experienced hikers. Kids will enjoy exploring the woods, spotting wildlife, and taking in the fresh air, while parents can appreciate the serene atmosphere and the opportunity to reconnect with nature.

Picnic areas are available, making it easy to spend an entire day outdoors. The Summit House, a historic building perched on the mountain, adds a touch of history to the experience and offers a fantastic vantage point for photographs. Parking is convenient, and the park is accessible for families with young children or those who may not want to hike the whole way.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly destination with stunning views and plenty to explore, Skinner State Park is an excellent choice. Highly recommend!
