Little island also known as “beer can island”. Great place if you take your trash with you. Raccoons on the island want your food but they won’t just steal it. Cool little spot, been going since I was a kid

I loved this place so much. Raccoons are so adorable and were not afraid of people at all. I brought a bunch of cat food with me and the raccoons were pretty happy but what they wanted more was water. A few of them were so thirsty they drank all my water. So if you decide to head there, do not forget to bring water with you. I guess there is no many sources of plain water on the island.

I had a lot of fun on January 5th, 2025 at SandSpur Island. Me and the family had brought watermelon and a banana for the raccoons to eat. They loved it. When I was here the raccoons only came to you if you had food. Otherwise they wouldn't come to you. I had to rent a kyak to be able to get to SandSpur Island. Otherwise it was worth it.

Also known as Raccoon Island. It is so interesting to see this island inhabited by raccoons. I must say that whatever department in the State of Florida is in charge of this island needs to step it up and give these creatures better water resources, they did not want our food but only water. I will show in my videos how thirsty they were. Also, one was hurt and had a can stuck in its paw, we couldn’t help, but did let our guide know and they were going to look for it. This happens when people refuse to take care of our planet and litter; not knowing there are consequences. There is one side that boats can’t access, and the water is tranquil and clear. Definitely check out this island and bring enough water to share.

Wear water shoes. Beach and portion of trail to reach the raccoon hang out is rocky.

The raccoons loved grapes, honey dew melon, whole peanuts & water.

Sweet hangout spot for locals and tourists alike!
Also known as Racoon Island or Beer Can Island the place is home to about 30 rather tame racoons who are healthy and sweet photo/video subjects. Please be kind to them and stay calm around these curious little bandits.
Due to all the activity the city does a good job of trash collecting so, please 🙏, use the garbage cans and dispose of litter appropriately. As a reward your trophy can be a cool shell (naturally empty ONLY) and/or a cool chunk of coral.
I captain boats in the area sometimes and I'll be very vocal towards anyone disrespecting the place, wildlife or other visitors.
So, come have fun and meet some new friends.
If you want a ride, there was 1 guy who found me somehow but, alas, Google doesn't want me to share specific contact information for myself. 😂 👍 and hitchhiking is tough in these parts 👍
See y'all there soon. 😊

We kayaked out there specifically to visit the Raccoons and there were 3 or 4 around the beach area where we docked and in the forest. Most of them weren’t so crazy about the apples we brought but they loved the grapes! Very friendly and calm animals… worth the trip!

Just a shame there are always so many boats docked around there blasting their music… and anywhere there are people, there is tons of plastic and trash left around the island ☹️

Such an amazing experience, I loved interacting with wildlife animals, the clean waters and having the opportunity to explore the island. If you go to this destination I recommend you bring food and drinks with you, because once on the island it is difficult to find someone who sell them.
