Incredibly moving and well presented. Requires walking for the best experience. Can be well over 100 degrees in the summer with no shade.

Very moving historic site that has a great amount of energy about it. Sadly didn't have enough time to walk the trails through the area so maybe allow for at least 90 minutes of you wanted to do that. Park Rangers were very helpful and obviously well informed on the subject of the site.

We arrived at the Sand Creek Massacre site on a beautiful summer day. We had a 20 minute summary of historical events from a park ranger, who did a wonderful job recounting the events of that 1864 day. We then took a stroll on the path up to the site and had some moments of quiet reflection. I highly recommend this trip. #Cheyenne&Arapahoe

This National Historic Site was heart wrenching to visit. As you read the panels and information presented it is difficult to comprehend the cruelty that happened here. The park itself is small but features a beautiful memorial overlook and a nice trail. The visitor center is minimal but the park rangers are friendly and knowledgeable. It is worth visiting and learning about this tragic piece of history.

An incredibly somber, but important place to visit. I am proud of the National Park System for NOT sweeping travesties under the rug. This site takes the opportunity to highlight a sad moment in our nation’s history. By acknowledging what happened here, the hope is that there can be healing. The Park Ranger on site was very helpful and courteous. The bookstore is essentially a trailer, but it had adequate books, magnets, stickers, etc...
You will drive miles down unpaved roads to get to this site. At some points you will think you are in the middle of nowhere. But it is well worth the trek.

An important site to reflect upon and acknowledge our difficult history as a nation. We soberly paid our respects at the site of a tragedy. It is a remote location, so stop in Eads at the contact station to find restrooms and get directions/real time details on conditions, which involve traveling several miles of well marked dirt roads. In Eads, there is a city park and playground steps from the contact station, which is meticulously maintained and a good spot for a picnic and for children to stretch their legs. Once you drive out to the site, there is a picnic area and there are restrooms available, but reverence and respect are in place once you approach the hill to overlook the site. Rangers are friendly and helpful in explaining the site and history.

What a huge piece of History! People should stop there and read the letters and walk down the trails and read the history markers. If you can't walk they have a buggy and they can take you. There's also a lady there that will tell the story. She's amazing!

This is a newer historic site, has the basics but is kinda bare bones. Has a small bookstore (2 bookcases), restrooms, and a picnic area. The overlook was hauntingly beautiful and the interpreters were knowledgeable.
