We had a reservation on a Saturday and all the rides were booked.. A 75 min train ride thru the woods and docent talking about the engine and the surrounding area was very informative.

There are other buildings such as an general store, restaurant, blacksmith shop etc.. You can also learn Morse code if you are interested

We can buy food or get food from home/ outside and there are many picnic tables available to use.. An afternoon well spent

What a cool experience for everyone. Of course the highlight is the train ride. I did the one through the redwoods. You can also take one to Santa Cruz Boardwalk.

The trip was about an hour. The conductor was funny and informative. Great views of the redwoods and the valley.

Food/shopping/restrooms are all available on site. Ample parking. Get your tickets online.

Getting tickets online was super easy. Show up. Park. Pick up your tickets inside the town and don’t worry about where you sit.
Most of the trip is in the shade, so enjoy the open air cars! There are daily activities for free and we went on Friday and planned for gold. We even got a little piece and it was packed up for us to take.
After the ride, we got lunch from the restaurant and sat at a picnic table in the shade.
Super nice family day, but there were plenty of adults there without kids.
Over all, just stunning redwoods, a fantastic guide narrating the history, and a wonderful day out!

It's been over a decade since I've been to Roaring Camp and it didn't disappoint. I've now brought my children back (I grew up in Santa Cruz) and it feels like nothing has changed.

The train was fantastic. If you're coming up for a visit I strongly encourage a train ride. We did the shorter one up into the redwoods and it was amazing with great info along the way. Highly recommend.

There are also fun activities for the kids. Food available for purchase and a short walk over into Henry Cowell Redwood State Park.

If visiting, try for a weekday like we did. A lot of people but manageable. The train gets a little behind as the day goes on, so if you have little ones like we do, take the first train of the day.

Fun activities for all ages. Great place for kids to learn history, such as panning for gold. The steam engine train trip to Bear Mountain was fun, informative and had beautiful views of the redwoods. Don, the conductor, was great, sharing interesting facts about the train and redwoods.

Went to Pug-o-Ween here and it was hilarious. Extremely hot day, so we were suffering on the main grounds, but the train ride was fantastic, cool and shady and breezy, and the conductor gave an excellent, informative and interesting talk during our ride, Learned all about the redwoods and the history of the area and the train. I thought I already knew it, since I live here and love redwoods, but I learned new things. Riding the train with hundreds of pugs was hysterical!
