We arrived at Petit Jean State Park on a rainy day around noon. While entering the park, we saw the stunning beginnings of the yellow fall leaves of the Ouachita Mountains at the park trees. We first went to the visitor center to find out the condition of the trails that day. The park ranger helped us with our queries and informed us about the dangerous and challenging trail conditions post rains. The visitor center has restrooms, gift shop, ranger station, a fire place outside.

My husband and I just finished a post holiday respite at Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas's first state park. We were greeted with incomparable vistas and warm, welcoming locals at each and every turn. The immense rock formations are indescribable and impossible to fully appreciate in a photo. For a lesson in history, a visit to both the automobile museum and the Winrock Institute is a must. Growing up in Arkansas, I was familiar with the name Winthrop Rockefeller, but at his namesake institute I was able to fully appreciate the man and all he'd done to elevate Arkansans. It was fun to gain an intimate glimpse into what it must have felt like growing up in one of America's truly legendary families. The rustic CCC cabin nestled among the pines was a perfect accommodation, and an end of the day cocktail at Mather Lodge made each day feel complete. Definitely hike to the Rock House for a snapshot of growing up a native American in the area. I can honestly say we will return to hike down to the falls when it's not quite as muddy out. This was the perfect place to unwind following a hectic holiday season.

One of the best state parks in the state of Arkansas! PLEASE KEEP THIS BETWEEN US SINCE I DONT LIKE CROWDS!! There is a lodge and cabins to stay at. Great camping for big rigs and tents, from open spots to wooded. You can even rent a yurt here! A great lake to fish at.. 10hp or under is allowed or you can rent a boat or paddle boat. Great hiking/ biking and scenic views. They did build a new visitor center about a year ago. The store is bigger than the old one but still small. A great little hands on museum and info area. The building is large but these two areas are not very big. As always, this park including the bathroom and showers are usually very clean.
