The put in is the worst on the Nashua river.
Concrete is good until you get in the water, then it's mud covered, slippery and only out another three feet. After that it's a large dropoff.
When water is shallow it's going to be very bad due to the muddy bottom.
That all said from here up river to 117 is impossible. Half mile up is a major blow down. Portaging is a poor to impossible option due to... Mud! Bugs! Plants!
Going down stream is really your only option.
It's a beautiful paddle.
You can go about 5 or 6 miles to Ice house Dam.
Very few people and lots of bird life.
Watch for otters. I saw one today

So beautiful and the access to the water is really great. I would’ve given it a five stars, Except for the gun practice noise coming in from Fort Devens. And I hear this is a regular thing. But still really beautiful and worth the paddle. Easy parking and easy access into the water no problem.

Great kayaking. Upstream from Rt. 2 several trees across the river for ?1 mile (as of summer 2021), so you need to pick your path carefully. Proceed with caution! Nashua River Watershed Association has a good paddling guide.

Really nice that the trails pop up on google maps. I got a little lost following the old tank road... Photos from September 8th. Fuzzy yellow caterpillar was fun to see! Almost looks like Pikachu!

Lovely, secluded area. Nice 2-mile loop trail. Well marked with signs. A little more overgrown than other places we have been but still easy to walk the trail. We went on a day with a moderate breeze so it wasn't too buggy. This is a wetlands area. I imagine on a calm day there can be lots of mosquitoes. Make sure to bring bug spray.

We stopped here on a Monday afternoon and did the river trail loop. It's a pleasant walk and the trails are generally well maintained but unfortunately we spent the whole time listening to target practice at the nearby military base. It was both unnerving and disruptive.
