This is a terrific history museum that we were lucky to find hosting an eclipse watch party on April 8, 2024! The exhibits are well done and educational without containing so much information that they become burdensome as in some museums we have visited. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. For the eclipse watch party they featured a local astronomy expert who had produced a well done video with specifics of this particular total solar eclipse, as well as some treats to eat and drink, eclipse viewing glasses and commemorative stickers. We were additionally fortunate to have crystal clear skies at the right time. 5 STARS all around!

What a fabulous museum in the small town of Batesville, Arkansas.
Today my adult daughter and I enjoyed a delightful group as we learned together how to make a Charcuterie Board from the ladies at Downhome Cooking.
How fun learning to make a rose from pepperoni slices!
Kathy, the director of the museum was delightful and eager to help.
It was a fun hands-on, affordable community event and we're looking forward to attending more events here in the near future.
I must add, our families loved our gorgeous and delicious variety of meats, cheeses, fruits, condiments, and dips that were included in making our beautiful individualized Charcuterie boards.
In fact, we'd love to take this class again!

This was my first visit to the Old Independence Regional Museum. I learned a lot about the history of the area I now live in. The museum staff worked in conjunction with The Smithsonian Museum for one of their current exhibits. The staff were all friendly & welcoming. The Curator spent time talking with us about her collaboration with the Smithsonian and how she tried to include local artifacts and information to make it meaningful for locals. I can say unequivocally that she did so, and did it well! I highly recommend a visit to the OIRM. After my visit, I sent in my registration & payment to become a member. I'm looking forward to joining the Quilting Group soon, and finding more ways to become a part of the Museum Community.
