Our annual Airstream group meets here in early summer and have been meeting here 1-2x per year going on 21 years this year. The campground hosts are great, same faces each year. Park is very clean and has the state has recently spent some money on the park fixing the roads, electric and the park overall. I highly recommend this campground. One note, there are no water hookups for the campsites, but more of a group faucet centrally located. Bring a good filter as there has been sediment in the water that has clogged up filters, but as we go in fully loaded with water, a week is not a problem and we for sure use the electric hookups due to the 90+ degrees.

Hiked by walking the road/loop around Dawson Lake today, the trails on the Southwest end were too muddy. This is a really pretty hike when the trees are green. The restaurant is closed during the winter months. A nice loop if you prefer pavement instead of dirt trails for mobility concerns.

Moraine View is a beautiful park. One of the greatest hidden gems in central Illinois. I'm hesitant to talk this place up so as not to attract too many people. One of the best aspects of this park is that it rarely gets over crowded. I've spent many nights camping here. Most of the time it's nice and quiet. The bathrooms and showers are clean. The campground staff is always nice. Be sure to visit through all four seasons. This place is incredibly beautiful in the fall with yellow leaves blanketing the ground.

Spent the whole day here exploring and hiking and fishing. The primitive tent sites are awesome. About a 1.5 mile trail with 8 camp sites scattered along the way. I will definitely be coming here through the summer to camp and fish. There’s a public 2 lane boat launch with an awesome concession stand with burgers and hot dogs and ice cream sundaes. There is a few playgrounds for the kids. They have canoe, kayak and Jon boat rentals. Would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a place to spend the day. There was an RV camping area and a separate class D camping area with sites at the waters edge. We hiked the tall timber trail and it was well kept. The trail crosses a small creek with a bridge. We found a couple morel mushrooms during our small hike. Not a ton of wildlife other than birds and a few water snakes swimming in the lake. We tried calling turkeys but got no response. I’m sure there’s more animals than we saw but with a ton of people they were probably all in hiding. There’s outhouse style bathrooms throughout the park. Nothing fancy tho, expect the usual bugs and spiders to accompany you while using the facilities.
UPDATE: finally spent the weekend here. Got here late and had to camp by the RV area, immediately moved to the tall timber trial Saturday morning. Fishing was tough. We spent most of the weekend trolling around the lake.
