The road to get to this is a dirt road, my Nissan Rogue easily handled the task. We packed a lunch and came out here to eat. There was no one else around, so we set up a blanket and ate inside the Jacal. It was soo much cooler than outside in the heat. It was probably one of my favorite parts of our trip, it was unique place to have a picnic. Pack it in and out though, don't leave trash.

A quick stop on the Old Maxwell Rd. Worth pulling over for 5 minutes and taking a look at this historic dugout style house. It’s amazing that Luna raised a large family here in these harsh desert conditions.

Super cool historic place at BigBend. But I was unable to track down the entire history of the man who lived past 100 yrs old & raised a large family in this mud hut that stands at its peak about 4 ft.

This is only old structure/ house we have seen on old Maverick road in park. The stretch from junction to Santa Elena Canyon was rough but beautiful from scenic point of view. Traveled in the morning & enjoyed lot

It's a tough ride to get there but well worth it. Road coming from Santa Elena is pretty washboard but very passable.

Walk up, bend over and shimmy on in. The temp difference had to be at least 10-15 degrees. Either that family was subjected to extreme gravity or the floor used to be lower.
