Decent view of the river & dam below, and you can see the Starved Rock Overlook across the entrance to French Canyon directly to the west.
Not a terrible hike from the visitor's center; we did about 3 miles to hit French and Wildcat Canyons and the overlooks in about 1 1/2 hours.

This outlook and the whole Starved Rock can get very busy as there are very few areas like this in Illinois! For best luck getting parking and having less people on trails, plan to get there early AM. I got there at 10ish and there was already moderate traffic, by the time I left at 3pm it was quite busy. Very beautiful area though, I'm told it's a little different every season and worth coming back to!
