This is a really great local history museum. Currently there are displays on local indigenous groups, medical history, World War II, farming history, and World War II. They primarily serve local schools, but they also have collections of documents open to researchers. They may also be open to the general public, but often the front door is locked as the entire museum runs through the fantastic work of just one full-time staff. If you want to visit, definitely call ahead and ask. The best times to call are Monday through Thursday late morning to afternoon.

What a hidden gem! I found this archeaology museum entirely by accident. My family wanted a road trip adventure so I researched museums near Lake Okeechobee and found this place. We were not disappointed. Typically, a museum of this size you can blow through in 30 minutes, but we ended up spending 2 hours there. The young archaeological student working the museum was brilliant, knowledgeable, courteous, and charming. I cannot recommend this museum enough, and be sure to leave a big donation since there's no admission.

Amazing local museum around the Lake Okeechobee area. At this place we saw photographs exhibition from the National Archives depicting scenes of a younger America at work, America at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and the gamut between. This museum tells the local history, which is important and different from the east coast history that people are used to. Visit.
