Checking off another state park on my quest! This one is definitely among my top 5. It's about 20 minutes outside of Hot Springs, which is a lovely location for either chilling out at the campsite or driving into town to see the sights. This trip we met some family there, so we were in town most of the time, but we did manage to spend an afternoon at the swimming area. It's an excellent lake beach with cool water even in the hottest part of July. The view across the lake from the swimming area is beautiful also. The campsite was pretty level. The bathhouses are the old style (men & women separate with bathroom & shower stalls) but clean as all our state parks have been so far. And the wildlife! There are deer just constantly roaming around the park and we repeatedly saw a beautiful red bird we later found is called a summer tanager. We were disappointed we didn't get to do any of the trails, but we're already planning to go back so we can.

Flying zebras (see photo)?! Seriously, you'll find some extraordinary finds at this park. From horseback riding, boating, camping, fishing, and last, but certainly not least, some superb hiking. The scenery, terrain, variety of foliage, and abundance of deer, make this one of the best locations to visit within the Hot Springs area. The trails are immaculate and have some tremendous views with even a small suspension bridge thrown in for good measure. The visitor center, restrooms, and even the changing facilities were pristine and worth a mention. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be making this park part of our regular rotation.

We stayed at cabin 19 for 2 nights. The queen beds were very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. The deck provided a beautiful view of the lake. We hiked Dam Mountain trail- 4.5 miles. Go counterclockwise (to the left side) to start up the trail. That way, you are climbing the hardest part first! We saw deer both evenings. Would definitely return for a second visit.

Highly recommend visiting/camping at this state park! We recently tent camped 3 nights and had a wonderful experience! The shower/bathroom facilities were very clean! Their are several trails you can hike in the park and overall everything was just lovely!

So, my kids convinced me to skip the beach this summer and go to Hot Springs. And when I say I was less than excited with this decision, I was determined to make the best if it. I like sand and waves and reading in sea salt air.

While planning our trip, we decided we were going to take a day for my sun loving self and spend it boating on a Lake - and if you didn't know there are plenty of lakes to choose from in the Hot Springs area.

We landed on Lake Catherine solely on the price of the boat rentals compared to everywhere else in the area, and lemme tell you, I'm glad we did.

First, lemme tell you, the crew at the marina was FABULOUS. They gave us a map of the lake, but the woman in there marked spots we should stop at and marked spots on the lake we should avoid (shallow water/ overcrowded), and telhe guys working this morning matched our humorous energy and joked with us until then sent us on our way.

Could there be prettier water elsewhere? Sure, but we're from Louisiana so murky water doesn't bother us. But was the pontoon perfect for us? Absolutely! We were able to go right up to the falls and play with that and dock in some places to take a short hike, then jump right back into the Lake to cool off.

100% recommend Lake Catherine for a boat rental. I can't speak about the park as a whole since we spend most of our day on the water, but I could absolutely skip a beach trip for a long weekend on this lake and not be disappointed.

This trip was amazing! The park was exemplary. Our camp's site was huge with enough room to fit two tents, though we only needed 1. The facilities were immaculately clean. There are plenty of things to do, like horseback riding!

It’s a very nice State Park to bring the dogs and family to hike there. The visitor center has many souvenirs, sale associate is very friendly and approachable. Got myself 2 hiking stick there too. There are a few trails to choose in this park. There is waterfall at this park too. My family and dog completed the 2 miles Fall Trail, it’s the shortest. During the hike, there is a 500ft elevation, some wet terrain if rains, pretty scenic and there is a few wooden bridges to cross. Follow the trees with a red paint marking and will bring you back to car park lots. Will visit this place again.
