They put on great races around San Diego! Triathlons, Duathlon’s and aqua bikes are generally the events they put on.I think they are a tad pricey but I would say that hat they, offer everything that you’re looking for in a race event.

BEWARE! STAY AWAY! KOZ events stole my entire registration fee after changing the CVC race to a course I couldn’t participate in. Do not sign up for their events.

On August 9th, 2 days before the Chula Vista Challenge triathlon, San Diego County issued a high bacteria count advisory for San Diego Bay - Chula Vista. KOZ Events sends out a notice August 10th that the swim has been cancelled, and the course has been modified. To replace the swim, the “international triathlon” I’d signed up for will now start with a 3.1 mile (5k) run followed by the standard 28 mile bike, and 6.2 mile (10k) run. No additional options are provided.

As someone who races with severely flat feet and full orthotics, this is pretty much guaranteeing injury as I don’t have the training mileage to do 15k of running. I call KOZ right away but no one answers..they’re “away for the event”, so I leave a voicemail. I send an email right after saying I’m not able to participate in the new course and provide my bib and registration number. I get a copy/paste reply from Jennifer at KOZ an hour later saying “we are still having an event” and “all of our registrations are non-refundable” along with a link to their policies. I reply back within 20 minutes (at 11:53am) that the run exceeds what I trained for and asking if I can swap my registration for another one of their triathlons so I can participate. No one responds. I try calling their event hotline later in the day but no one picks up. Not good.

By August 11th, the day of the race, no one from KOZ has returned my calls or responded to the email from earlier.

On August 12th I call KOZ events and again get no answer. I then contact USAT to tell them what happened. USAT says based on my circumstances they are refunding my $15 one-day pass. I then send a follow up email to KOZ asking if I can swap my registration for one of their two triathlons in September. No response.

I call KOZ August 14th at 3pm, I’m told everyone is out of the office and to leave a message. No one calls.

August 15th, 5 days after their last email, I finally get a response from Jennifer at KOZ. It’s a copy/paste reply offering a 30% discount code for a future race to everyone who registered for CVC, and ending with “Thank you for your interest in our events!”. Yikes. I call KOZ right away and ask to speak with Jennifer. I’m told she’s out of the office so I leave a message.

I finally get to speak with Jennifer when she calls me about 45 minutes later. I ask again about changing my registration for a different race since I couldn’t participate in the updated course. She repeats the same copy/paste text her emails, “we still had an event”, “we’re offering a 30% discount for the next race to everyone that registered for CVC”. I remind her I wasn’t able to contact anyone before the race aside from her one email reply. “We were busy setting up the race not replying to messages at that time.”. She then tells me I should have driven down to the race site the day before and tried to talk to someone from KOZ in person, and that they could have switched me to a different distance…which is a little late now, and would have been a nearly 4 hour drive for me just to see if anyone who could do something was available. Her resolution again is: “we’re offering a 30% discount for the next race to everyone who registered for CVC” and only adds that she can give a 30% discount on one other race they’re also hosting. She might as well should have said: “Thanks for your $180, but here’s a discount code to pay for another one of our races.”. No thanks.

I've been doing tri's for over 10 years and have even volunteered my time at races. This has been my only negative experience with a triathlon event coordinator, and I definitely will not be signing up for KOZ’s races in the future.

They are keeping everyone's registration fees from the Granfondo events, claiming you can use it next year. There is no guarantee that races will be run anytime soon. Meanwhile they are collecting interest from our money, and not responding to inquiries. Poorly run company, not to be trusted.
