What an incredible place! If you're looking to hike on an open, paved trail with a gentle gradient, this is the perfect spot for you. The breathtaking views at every turn are unparalleled; you can see the San Pablo Reservoir and the waterways leading in and out of it. I could also see the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge in all their majestic splendor. The walkway features many benches for resting, and there are picnic areas nearby where you can grill your food. Dogs are allowed on leashes, and all the owners we encountered were friendly, with their dogs on their best behavior. There were also many cyclists along the road, and also along the trail.

I have been staying in Oakland for a few days and so badly wanted to get back up in the hills.

So I took the harrowing drive all the way uo the hills to Inspiration Point. And well....one place that truly lives up to its name. What an amazing trail to take in the evening at sunset. And dare I say.....any other time. Gorgeous views. Wonderfully paved trails for accessibility.

Note to the wise: If you are going to walk in the tall grass, there -are- ticks. I have been on many walks and hikes that say there are ticks....and there aren't many. This. Trail. Has. Ticks. In the long grass. I had two for a short 5 minute off the pavement walk.

Great scenic place for a walking hike. Trail is easy - most of it is paved and relatively flat. But, on a clear day you have a great view of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and much of the bay.

Trail is dog friendly. As a side note, if you walk far enough you’ll stumble on the remains of some old Nike missile launch pads from the Cold War.

Definitely recommended.

Lovely accesible walk. We usually start off at inspiration point and make our way past the cows to the missile site by Nimitz way. Plenty of viewpoints and benches to rest if needed.

I hate to share this wonderful place but here goes! It is my favorite place to go trail running and photograph friends! You do need a permit to go here though!

That said let me describe the trail a little bit:
It's about 3.5 miles round-trip.
Really really wet and muddy at the start! Be prepared for that.
Instead of annoying switch backs you get nice big bends and turns. Lots of hills, but a great place to work on down hill running. The last hill of the trail will be the most challenging as on your way back up it you'll be running up 150 ft--wait, maybe better to say that it's a half a mile uphill. This place is Serene and I love going solo for a peaceful run and stretch. Also just makes for a great hike. The views are just wonderful.

I extend my run by crossing the street and heading down to the reservoir. When you get to the second street you'll go downhill, not uphill.

Happy running/shooting.

It was fine. Learned about the flora and fauna of the hills. We hiked from Brazil room, and the trail was quite muddy going up. You can drive to the top and check out the views as well as take various trails around from there.

What a treat it was to watch the San Pablo reservoir filled up after those rains in California. Pretty chilly , windy but the hike trails gives you good views of the Golden gate too. Very relaxing to spend a walk/hike.
