So far, our cruise has been amazing. We knew it would be a tame cruise and didn’t realize it catered to the older crowd, but we sure did need to get away from the chaos. Staff is polite. Only issue is that dining options are slim and the buffet food is horrible (we are foodies so take with a grain of salt if you’d like).

We sailed Alaska aboard Holland America’s Noordam in a Neptune Suite, expecting a premium experience. Unfortunately, it fell far short. The food was consistently cold, uninspired, and lacking in creativity. Desserts were forgettable, and the Morimoto specialty dinner—meant to impress—was bland and absolutely not worth the upcharge.

As Neptune Suite guests, we were shocked to be nickel-and-dimed for basics like soft drinks and bottled water. At this price point, those should be included. Celebrity Cruises handles this with far more grace and class.

What salvaged the experience? The piano bar, hands down. Gabe and Meghan brought joy and energy to every evening. And the waitstaff was exceptional—polite, attentive, and consistently thoughtful. They remembered our names and preferences and made us feel cared for in a way the amenities did not.

Alaska’s beauty is breathtaking—but Holland America needs to match that beauty with better service and more generous perks, especially for their top-tier guests.

The experience was great. Good food and service. Only complaint is our tour director, Rachel Moody. She was knowledgeable, but had one heck of a temper and not all there in the head. I realize it's hard to get people to come work in Alaska, but she shouldn't be around the public

We did the Mendenhall Glacier & Whale Watching tour in Juneau recently. I can’t say enough good things about our guide/driver, Carrie. She was so informative, entertaining, and just all around incredible. I’m so grateful we happened to get on her bus at the cruise port. We loved all of the Alaskan history she told us about, as well as information about the wildlife we passed by on the drive. We also especially enjoyed/appreciated her knowledge about Native tribes in Alaska, as we are plains Native Americans ourselves. The entire cruise to the various ports in Alaska was amazing, but this experience was definitely a huge highlight. Thank you so so much, Carrie!! You are the best!

If I could give less than one star I would. Here is the email I just sent to HAL. We have been on the train for 13 hours stuck and not moving due to mechanical issues. Phone calls to HAL did nothing and the poor folks working on the train aren’t able to do anything. Amazingly enough, they did come around to collect payment for any food or drinks ordered while being kidnapped and sitting on a non moving train for 13 hours.

I demand that you take immediate action to address the unacceptable 12-hour delay we experienced on the train journey back to Anchorage. Numerous customers, including myself, incurred significant financial losses due to missed tours and delayed flights. I expect Holland America Lines to fully comply with the Passenger Bill of Rights of 2024 and provide us with a complete refund without further delay.

The bad thing about the bus ride is they don't stop anywhere for people to get food on the way to Anchorage .
