A genuine historical, informative, and up close view of the Hatfield and McCoy feud. This museum provides not only an in-depth look into the lineage of each family by providing physical items such as documents, some of with are legal, some of which are personal, such as letters, other items include but are not limited to, guns, knives, clothing and accessories. This museum provides more pictures than one could ask for. Last but not least, the most important aspect of the museum is the people running the facility. The people are genuine and knowledgeable. Worth the trip!

Fred I have been watching your videos a long time. I enjoy them so much. I live in North Carolina and grew up with some of your family. Richard McCoy was their dad, his nickname was Rock. His wife was Minnie Bell & his mom was Vinney McCoy. Their son is Richard Tunney McCoy. We were best friends growing up. Don't you ever get discouraged telling the truth bout the feud. Nothing really special there. Call it a museum but it's more like a antique roadshow to clear.

"My visit to the Hatfield & McCoy Museum was a huge disappointment. I was expecting an immersive and informative experience, but what I encountered was the complete opposite. The exhibits were extremely sparse and lacked any real substance. Many of the artifacts seemed randomly placed with little to no explanation of their significance or connection to the famous feud between the Hatfields and McCoys. There were no engaging displays, interactive features, or even enough detailed history to help visitors understand the complex and fascinating story behind this notorious rivalry.

The museum itself felt outdated and poorly maintained. Many of the items on display were not properly labeled, leaving me confused about their relevance. Even basic information about key figures in the feud was missing or glossed over. To make matters worse, the staff seemed indifferent and offered no guidance or additional information. When I asked questions, the answers were vague and unhelpful, making me feel like they weren’t really knowledgeable about the subject matter.

Considering the rich history behind the Hatfield and McCoy feud, I expected a much more well-organized and thorough presentation. Instead, it felt like an amateur attempt at creating a museum, and it left me feeling like I had wasted my time and money. If you're looking to learn anything meaningful about this chapter in American history, this is not the place. I would highly recommend skipping this museum and finding another way to explore the story of the Hatfields and McCoys."

Where do I start? I have been researching and traveling to learn more about the feud. I have been to multiple museums and watched more YouTube videos than I can count. Fred and Shelia were so welcoming. So amazing. Every question I asked, I had an answer and a paper or picture to back it up. They have done their research and can back up what they say. I have watched so many YouTube videos with people having opinions or hearing stories from other people. Fred and Sheila can provide proof for everything they say. I enjoyed the visit today and I love their videos..I highly recommend this museum. It was worth the 10 hour drive. History is meant to be factual and you will find that here.

Bill was so generous with his time and the museum was wonderful. So much time and effort put into this to help a visitor understand the history. The video room and the video added so much to our visit. The artifacts added with Bill's knowledge were outstanding. Worth the trip!

I called a few times during the week, so unless you were in Pikeville for week I got no answer. I called twice on Saturday morning and no answer. I looked on your website and it said OPEN. I took it as you just being busy at the museum. I just watched your video where you mentioned me as irate. Far from it, I do know this, if it were me, I would at the very least say I was closed before I left for Pikeville, or any other reason I would not be there.

There wasn't a tremendous amount of artifacts here, as one review described. However as I expected, artifacts of this family feud are apparently rare. So having enough to dedicate a museum says something. What we did find here was a quite knowledgeable and personable "guide" in Bill Richardson. In addition to the Hatfield & McCoy material there was an equally impressive amount of education on the local coal mining history. As four adults in our forties taking a field trip to learn more of the feud, we started our day here and then received a Hatfield McCoy "driving tour" map at the nearby Coal House. The driving tour was pretty exciting. And going to the museum first was a great way to put into context the things we would come across while driving the tour.
