Today was amazing! We went to see a castle right here in Tennessee! Floyd "Junior" Banks built the castle out in Loudon County TN called the Greenback Castle or Fortress of Faith. He dedicated this castle to the Lord and encourages everyone to come out and see it for themselves. He never charges a fee to visit, but donations are very much appreciated. He was excited to meet us and take us for a tour. He is a fascinating gentleman with some really interesting stories. He built the castle himself with donated items over the past 30 years and still works on it. Junior told us he never used a level or measuring device, God guides him. He lives in a house nearby on the many acres of property. I highly recommend touring this incredible castle (AT YOUR OWN RISK) and spending some time listening to Junior. I immediately went on Amazon and bought 2 of his books because he was so intriguing.

It's one of the most bizarre places I've ever been. Was unsettling until Floyd showed up as we were about to leave. I enjoyed meeting him, and his explanations certainly helped to rationalize why he built this. I'm not saying it all made sense, but it felt better hearing his explanations of everything. Wear long pants as the place is unkempt and overgrown. One of our group had a few ticks on them as we left . Worthwhile trip for the adventure junkie.

This is one of the most unique places I have ever been in Tennessee. It definitely is off the beaten path, but worth the unforgettable, eccentric experience if you are in the area.

It truly could be beautiful if Junior had help to complete this visionary, historic landmark.

Well, it was an adventure. We love just getting out and seeing where we live.
It was a juxtapose of emotions. You could see the effort and imagination put into it, but then, it was just a hodgepodge of symbolism and meaning. I walked away with a sense of sadness. It just hung over the whole place. It had been vandalized as well.

Would I recommend it? No. Is it interesting and a place of interesting photo opportunities? Most definitely.

Pros: interesting

Cons: in very bad repair
