We drove to Cripple Creek and then went South on scenic Shelf RD. It is a dirt road that is one lane in "shelf" area. The road ends near Canon City. You can also start from Canon City. Views are amazing! This road is not for anyone that is afraid of heights or being closed to edge of drop off.

Stunning views!!! We were lead here by the map from Florissant to the Royal Gorge and were surprised by such a beautiful route. Will come back on a motorcycle some day!

Absolutely beautiful! At night tho...really creepy. Seams darker than should be, even on full moon nights. Could be all the UFOs hiding out and maaaan oh man...the bigfoot cries can tear right thro that night sky!
But overall- my favorite drive to either city(denver or colo springs) much prefered over the highway! Lol
