Very informative. My 5 year old loved the Junior Ranger activity. Be advised the visitor center is closed for lunch from noon-1pm so you’ll need to plan accordingly to pay for your admission.

We decided to spend a night in Fort Davis, mainly to attend the Star party at the McDonald’s observatory. During the day we decided to check out Fort Davis National Historic Site . A lot on interesting historical information about the “Wild West’, but also really enjoyed exploring the area, and hiking around the hills and beautiful rock formations. Cool place to visit while in town!

The Fort Davis Mountain fort is a serene place for historical memories and learning. Nicely decorated and furnished fort buildings provide the visitor with a detailed view of life at the Fort. Nicely kept paths lead you through the visitor areas to explore areas of 200 years ago. Nestled in the little town of Fort Davis, which is also full of history. The Limpia Hotel, bookstore and many other shops are awaiting your view. Don't forget to stop by the Prude Ranch and McDonalds Observatory. Catching a star party can be stunning on a clear warm Texas night!

Must See !! This Fort has been reconstructed. Their still working to restore, all the structures. You can go in them and see what life on the Frontier looked like in the 1800's !!
Also, there is a road that you can view the entire complex from atop the mountains behind it.
Probably, need at least a couple of hours to fully see the whole complex

This was an unexpected find! We were on a road trip through West Texas and stayed in Ft. Davis en route to Big Bend. We decided to go see the Fort, since we were near by. This place was amazing! So much history, and so much work has been done to restore the fort to what it was. Plus I saw my first live tarantula in the wild.

Great place to see some of the American history. This kind of places bring back memories western movies, and you do think they are pretty close to reality. Take it easy as sun is relentless in the site, but stepping into the restored buildings show how much immediate cool you get compare to outside.
