I booked the Black Oakland History Tour for a group visiting from around the United States. Acacia Woods Chan and Darnisha Wright (Mama D) did a wonderful job telling us about the history of Oakland, showing us historically important sites, and giving us a taste of what is happening today, (including some delicious food). Everyone was buzzing about it afterwards.

I had the pleasure of attending a Fruitvale Taco Tour recently with Ethnic Ties Travels. Our tour guide Acacia is so knowledgeable about the history of the area and clearly has invested in building rapport and a sense of community in the neighborhood. It was great knowing that our tour was not only helping us to be more familiar with the community and history (while eating delicious tacos!), but to also see the positive impact on local businesses. Especially during this time of covid-related vulnerabilities for small local businesses, this type of initiative is one that I hope to see modeled further to create sustainable mutual support and to build/strengthen community relationships. Thank you to Ethnic Ties Travels and to the local taquerias! I look forward to supporting more businesses in Fruitvale as well as other communities that add to Oakland's rich and diverse culture(s)
