It was an honor to visit the Dexter Parsonage Museum. My family and I received a guided tour lead by Sarah (4/12/2025) who was phenomenal. She was so welcoming, knowledgeable, explained each crevice of the house thoroughly. I was so intrigued not only by the beauty and history of the home but how Sarah spoke and gave so much history behind the home plus more. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to not only know the history of the home, but feel the history of the home to visit for a tour.

We didn't know what to expect, but it turned out an amazing afternoon visiting the Dexter Parsonage museum. After an interesting video, we were given an intimate tour of the property where MLK lived, with all the stories and context given by our amazing tour guide. A unique experience to see such a significant place up close without red tape or waiting lines, and especially with such a great guide. Truly wonderful.

Great hour tour. It was just what we were looking for on MLK day.

The tour might not start off great. They have you watch a 10-15 min poorly produced video of the home’s history before going over. In my opinion they could completely cut that out. The talking and in-person storytelling was much better.

The tour guide did an awesome job telling the story of 54-60 as though we were there. He had lots of anecdotal evidence and retrospection, meeting history. I don’t think he could have done a better job delivering historic wonderment to the kids in the group. He tailored the tour to the audience well.

There may be some points that are more round about, but the tour is a well spent hour of your time while in Montgomery.

Make sure to follow the Dexter Parsonage up with going to the MLK’s Church on 454 Dexter Ave!

I enjoyed this visit unfortunately both works were on lunch so we weren't able to get inside to see everything. The one employee was able to assist with giving us additional information and history about the site. We will be heading back soon.

The museum, which was once the residence of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his family, is a beautifully preserved slice of American history. I recently had the privilege of visiting the Dexter Parsonage Museum on South Jackson Street in Montgomery, Alabama, and I am utterly captivated by the experience. This museum is not just a collection of artifacts; it's a living, breathing testament to the heart and soul of the civil rights movement. The Dexter Parsonage Museum doesn't just focus on the life of Dr. King; it also sheds light on the broader civil rights movement, highlighting the struggles and victories of countless individuals who fought for equality and justice. The museum's commitment to education is commendable, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made and the progress achieved in the ongoing pursuit of civil rights.

Hidden gem! We were the only people there and got so much out of it. We had an awesome tour guide and are sad people are not visiting this place more. It's a historical landmark for the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. This place marked me personally and I'd strongly recommend it to anyone driving through or in the area.

Unfortunately, we stopped through on a Monday when the museum is closed, but also this Covid has them closed for now. Still, just being on the grounds, sharing the history with my kids, it was still very moving. We hope to get back one day, when we can tour not only this, but other museums in the area as well.
