This hidden gem seemingly popped out of nowhere. We were able to hike about 4 miles and there were still places left to explore.

Features small waterfalls. Gorgeous mature oak trees. Indian burial mounds. And, an old cemetery.

Hiking is easy to moderate. We suggest that you grab a trail map at the entrance that will tell you where the steeper areas are.

There is one trail to the bridge that does not show that it is steep but there is some challenge on that one since it seems to be a newer trail.

Overall, for this God forsaken prairie state, this is one of the hidden gems which offers great views, moderately challenging trails, and mostly quiet enjoyment of nature.

One downfall is that it is near a busy highway and main route so the road noise can be heard quite well when you're on top of the bluff. Also, do not cross the south boundary! There are warning signs all over that you'll be arrested.

Fantastic spot. Be sure to read all posted regulations prior to entering the site.
When you arrive, follow the road into the parking lot. Grab a map, check out announcements, and begin your adventure.
Plenty of wildlife and green life to enjoy. The northern section is a bit steep so be sure to use the rope if you are less experienced. Do not litter!

This beautiful 253-acre Dayton Bluffs Reserve has been beautifully restored. The Conservation Foundation purchased the property in 2013 and is leased to the city of Ottawa. The friends of Dayton Bluffs a local volunteer group helps with the continued restoration and management of the preserves natural and historic resources. Please take your garbage with you and keep this a paradise. Leaf it like you found it!

I don’t think half those pictures are of that area. A lot of the signs say no hiking past this point.

I really like what's going on out here. It's natural, an adventure and feels more grounded than some of the more commercialized parks/preserves around. It's a work in progress as of 05/2018 but I like the direction it's heading.

4/23/24 Wear shoes that can get muddy for the hike along the river and creek bed. The wild flowers were an excellent in variety. We just loved it
