A Peaceful Escape with Stunning Views
Davis Mountains State Park is a true Texas gem! If you're looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and take in some absolutely breathtaking scenery, this is it.
The hiking trails are well-maintained and offer a great mix of challenge and reward—especially the Skyline Drive Trail, which gives you panoramic views that are worth every step. The wildlife is abundant (we spotted deer and tons of birds), and the starry skies at night are nothing short of magical.
Campsites are spacious and clean, and the staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming. The historic Indian Lodge is also a unique bonus—great for those who want comfort with their adventure.
Whether you're camping, hiking, stargazing, or just passing through, Davis Mountains State Park offers a peaceful, beautiful escape that’s hard to beat. Definitely a must-visit for nature lovers!

We loved this park! The views were amazing! The hosts were very busy keeping the park so clean. We took a tour up at the McDonald Observatory; very cool!
The camping sites were very nice and spacious.

A really nice state park with miles of back country trails and the old CCC trail that links to Fort Davis national historic site. Over three days, I had lots of fun hiking all the trails, and also spent some time in the two birding 'blinds'. It was my first time seeing Acorn Woodpeckers and have posted the pic of the pole across from the interpretive center where they are storing their acorns. The two adjacent poles have several woodpecker nests. The park workers were really nice and helpful, and I appreciated the sign-in/sign-out process for the back country, which added a layer of safety for those 12+ mile hikes.

Amazing place for hiking. My 2 year old toddler enjoyed walking through mini obstacles and the view is breathtaking. We luckily got to see the sunset, which was beautiful. Worth visiting.

If it's not windy, fun place to picnic.

What a phenomenal hidden gem off the beaten path.
Came here for a campground night- stayed for two!
Filled with great trails to hike. Beautiful scenery.
Campground is a little tight in some places but it’s my own fault for picking a smaller spot. It had a tree and was perfect though!
Site has electric and water. There was full sewer sites too but I didn’t opt for that.
The showers were clean and decent- not bad at all.
The hikes involve some rocky scrambles so definitely wear proper footwear.
Saw a lot of birds and insects. I even saw a tarantula!! No snakes but I’m sure they’re there.
Beautiful sky at night.
Campground fee is affordable.
You pay a day rate if you’re just coming for the day.
It’s clean and well maintained as are the trails.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it here.
Would’ve stayed longer if I hadn’t been in a time crunch.
Staff were super friendly too.
The only downside is no cell service- least not for me. Unless I had hiked the top of a mountain.
The headquarters/office had free wifi but I needed to walk up there to use it.
It was a great way to disconnect !

Had a very nice visit. Staff was friendly and guided me to the perfect hiking trail for my abilities. They have a great bird blind. The Davis mountains are beautiful, especially against the brilliant blue sky.

We decided to spend a night in Fort Davis mainly to attend the Star party at the McDonald’s observatory. During the afternoon we decided to check out the state park. Friendly staff, beautiful views and a well maintained park. Didn’t have enough time to do any hiking but will come back for sure.

Great trails. Decent bathrooms. So of RV spots pretty short and unlevel. Lovely drive up skyline drive and great hike back down. Do Ccc trail up and skyline trail down (easier). No cell service except on top of skyline drive.
