If this rating were all about atmosphere, this place would get a 5/5. The place is very unique, and I mean that in a good way. Unfortunately, they charge about $15 for a liter of beer, which you can get from Der Biergarten (with a better selection, I might add) for $12, or $8 if you're a stein club member...and that's downtown! What is this place's excuse when they don't even offer table service

Okay, so the prices are high, but did that earn them the 2-star rating I gave them? No. The food is also JUST TERRIBLE. I had never had a bad german pretzel until I came to Communion. It's not a matter of personal preference or me not understanding the taste of an "authentic" pretzel either. I've spent a lot of time in Munich, and I've never spent so much money on a pretzel-shaped cardboard box.

The obatzda (cheese spread) and sausage sandwich my wife and I tried were also bad, but none of it was as bad as that wet cardboard dumpster-pretzel. Just don't even try it.

I wanted to like this place. I really did. But, until they either improve their food GREATLY or lower their prices GREATLY, that just isn't going to happen.

Great atmosphere, but pretty bad beer--the house "cerveza" tastes like soggy corn chips, and the only other choice was a dodgy 21st Amendment seasonal. Also, we ordered chips and salsa from the food truck, but the chips had to have been sitting out for days--they were stale to the point of being chewy, like old-leather-chewy. Might have just hit it on a bad day, but if not, it's definitely overrated.

I absolutely loved this place when it was a German themed restaurant. The food was fantastic. I can see people's criticisms of the token system but I still enjoyed it as it already took into account tips for the employees. I'm sad to see the owner is changing it to a mexican themed restaurant. I won't be returning during that time. Kevin, if you ever want to turn it back into a german beer garden, I'd be happy to come by!

awesome outdoor space. insultingly overpriced (draught) beer. the token system is designed to make you forget how much you are spending.
1 token = $5 = 1/4L = 8.5oz

i would not come here until they get rid of this price scheme and the token system. ive gone on a weeknight when its not as busy, so theres no one at the token booth, so you get them at the bar. you end up paying for tokens, being handed tokens, and immediately hand them back for a beer by the same bartender. there are two steps that could be cut out of that process.

having said that, i would only buy canned beer, since a 12 oz craft for $5 is about market price.

ive only had one of their sandwiches, and it was very good. you may be fooled by the fancy german name (which i cant remember), but its essentially a spam sandwich. it is seriously good though!

Upscale, southern dining with dishes that are obviously made with love. For an adventure, let your waiter choose your meal with the family option. You can't go wrong.
