Favorite hike of the day! The canyon was so neat to walk through. Our dog joined us as it's one of 2 hiking trails he can do. He was able to do the walk up and down the rocks with us. We loved this one! No doggie shoes required. There is a restroom in the parking lot.

This is a great short hike through a quasi-slot canyon located about half way between Lajitas and Presidio. From the trailhead to the mouth of the canyon is a short hike..... Maybe something like a 1/4 mile. You probably could easily then walk another half mile through the canyon until get to the end. And it's very clear when you get to the end! There's a sign hanging that says this is the end! The canyon walls are easily 80-100 feet tall. And if you do this hike during the summer months when the temperature is a lot harder, there is a lot of shade from the canyon walls. The canyon itself also created kind of a wind tunnel. So even if it's warm, there might be a bit of a breeze that could help. There's also a couple of places along the road, leading to the trailhead, where you could stop for a picnic. We actually set beside the rio grande and had lunch. It's kinda crazy sitting in texas and looking across the river at Mexico. I hope to do this.Hike again the next time we're in big bend!

I loved this hike. Went here March 3, 2025.
1. After the first short downhill, one walks a short distance in a sandy streambed. This BBRSP should put a boardwalk here such as there is near the entrance to Santa Elena Canyon.
2. The canyone goes longer than I expected, but I enjoyed it all. Very little change in elevation, so is an easy walk, wish a few smooth washes to step down. I walked to the end. One of my favorite things around BBNP.

One of the best places I’ve visited with my family! Kid friendly place. Some small careful spots to look for. Over all we spent an hour there! Not at all overwhelmed with people. You could stay all day there!

Easy little 30 min hike. Nicely sheltered from the harsh sun by +100' cliffs on each side. Beautiful scenery.
Wish they opened up the last leg so you can get to the Rio Grande.

Very easy and nice trail. We took our older dogs with us and they only struggled with the soft black sand and we couldn't go past a small 2ft drop because one of them is very heavy. If you can go to the end you are rewarded by seeing the rio grande. It's nice because the whole thing is shaded unless the sun is directly above you.

Mostly easy hike, with some small rock scrambles, all within towering rock walls. Great experience for all ages.

Easy hike. Prior to entering the canyon the trail along the creek bed is not well marked everywhere. We were not able to go the last 500 feet or so due to recent rains. Plan on getting your feet wet if you’re seeing many large puddles in the canyon.
We saw several lizards and one snake.
