This is a very nice park! Wish we could have fished in the lake that’s centrally located and very well maintained lawn surrounding it. People with little ones would love the playground and older kids and adults can take advantage of the fitness zone.
My only complaint was the concessions. Our chicken tenders were over cooked so badly we could not eat them and considered asking for a refund. One of the kids from our group asked for extra sauce with his chicken tenders and was told it would be $1.00. Seriously? For a tiny cup of sauce?
Next time, think we’ll bring food to the parking lot and eat there.

The park and lake were aesthetically pleasing, but my party came to this park in hopes of sitting down to eat.

We could only find one real picnic area which is close to the entrance to the park. If there are others, we did not notice them as we drove around the entire complex.
The picnic area has multiple bench/table combos to sit at and everything was clean and kept well. However, the garbage cans are too close to the tables so flies swarm from the garbage cans to your food which was very bothersome and our party spent more time swatting flies than eating our food.
If you are looking to just come to the park to sit down and have some take-out, I'd recommend finding somewhere else.

We love to go walking there with our dog (no dog park, but there would be plenty of space for it, that's why there are only 4 stars). Everything else is great. We went to a sports event too, there is most always something going on. For walking never too crowded. Off the paved tracks you can even be by yourself

Choccolocco Park Oxford, Alabama

Muscogee Indian territory for most of history. The grounds here were held in high regard and used for ceremonial and living purposes.

Perfect setting for that afternoon walk your mind and body desire. The concrete pathway circles the lake and provides for a low impact easy walk encompassing a distance of 1.8 miles.

Come here at dawn to walk and watch the sunset... serene, calming and relaxing... this walk was perfect, the ideal summer excursion. Bring a snack or two, parking is ample... and the park and trail are easily accessible, the information boards line the pathway and provide informative historical information.

Most interesting of all is the 'Earthen Mound' used by the Muscogee for ceremonial purposes... captivating and ancient this site was an important community gathering place.

This area of land at Choccolocco Park is a historically significant site... It was inhabited for thousands of years before the presence of Eastern Europeans. This is Native American land and territory. You can feel this important relationship to the past in the Parks pathways. The environment the setting of the sun and the air around you all reflect a Native peoples presence.

I was very impressed with this park. The setting around me could not be more perfect. Choccolocco Park is a must visit site for it's historical value. And the sunsets at dawn are beautiful and inspiring. Give yourself time to reflect and find that inner calm the environment dictates. I felt re-invigorated after my walk through Choccolocco, time spent I wouldn't take for granted. The park was well worth my visit.
