Restaurant in Truro featuring excellent outdoor dining. There is an area under an awning and a much larger patio in dappled shade. I had six wellfleet oysters and a Cobb salad and a glass of wine. Everything was excellent. Parking is limited but the post office across the street was closed and plenty of parking over there.

This restaurant was one of a few that we dined at while vacationing in the Truro area in late June. The off-street parking here is very limited with a few spaces in front and a few more spaces in back of the restaurant. The hostess greeted us warmly and we chose a table on the large open-air patio, although there was some seating available in the covered patio area adjacent to the outdoor bar. The outdoor dining atmosphere here is especially nice on comfortable evenings like when we visited. We were brought menus shortly after being seated. We ordered the seared scallops with rice, and grilled salmon with potatoes when our server returned a short time later. Both meals were served up very hot roughly 25 minutes later. The scallops, while not plentiful, were cooked nicely and tasted good. My grilled salmon was noticeably overcooked and dry, although it tasted ok. The potatoes were overdone as well. I decided not to send the meal back because I didn't want to wait another 25 minutes for a replacement dish, so I asked for a little melted butter to add some needed moisture to the dry salmon, and our server brought a very small cup with (maybe) an ounce of butter in it. I discovered later when the bill came that there was actually a $1.00 upcharge added for that small amount of butter. Really?!? I realize that restaurant prices tend to be higher than average in resort areas like this, but both portion sizes were on the small-ish size considering the menu prices. Our bill for the two meals, beverages, (and the melted butter), plus tax totaled a bit over $75, more than we felt was a reasonable price based on portion sizes here and prices for the same meal at other restaurants in the surrounding area. Our server, Grace, was cordial and efficient but not very engaging during our visit. Neither of us have a large appetite, but we both found ourselves a little hungry later that same night. Other than the enjoyable outdoor dining atmosphere, there weren't enough compelling reasons for us to return for another meal. Your mileage may vary. Thanks for reading!

A truly overpriced underwhelming meal
The definition of a tourist trap.
I started with what passed for clams casino..
6 pathetic greasy littleneck shells filled with a greasy mix of bacon and cheese. I'm not sure that clams were among this greasy abomination.
I opted for the Lobster rolls. I was asked if I wanted the hot one . I didn't know that there was such a thing.
I had my heart set on a real New England lobster roll. Even seeing market price on the menu I didn't expect to pay $33 for it.
If it were sensational I wouldn't make a stink.
The best part was the buttered toasted New England roll they got that right. The Lobster was good but the mix was devoid of flavor and not much mayonnaise and no herbs lemon or celery or celery seed in it.
The Lobster was cooked perfectly but it too lacked seasoning.
Rarely do I tip less than 20%
When I saw the bill for $56 and change
I had " clams casino, Lobster Roll and ice tea
To say I was overcharged would be an understatement. I left $60 and left hungry and disappointed. This meal was not enough to feed a mouse.
These are fine dining prices .
There was nothing fine about this meal.

Great low key casual vibe. Beautiful patio, limited indoor and bar seating as well. We enjoyed the calamari to start. It was incredibly tender and had a nice light fry. My husband declared the fish sandwich was the best he’s had and I tepidly tried the shrimp tacos. I was weary of the flavor combo but was foolish to have doubted. This was our best meal while visiting Cape Cod.

Great value for the quality of food. Loved the service super friendly. Good beer selection and cool turtle grind inside.

We always try to get dinner here when we're in the area but after our most recent experience we'll go out of our way to come. The food and service were great as always, but what really set this particular experience apart was apparently a new addition since our last visit. Not only could our dog join us on the patio instead of waiting in the car, but they have a "pup stuff" menu. Ruthie greatly enjoyed her hamburger patty and white rice, served up on a souvenir frisbee that is sure to become her new favorite toy, and all of the attention she got from the staff.

There is really not much to recommend Captain's Choice in Truro, MA. except that the atmosphere is cozy-ish. The food was not bad; it just was not special. The bar was limited.

When we were there, we saw two waitresses, one also tended the bar. Neither woman cracked a smile to anyone during the entire time we were there.

On a different note, the restaurant has a menu section for dogs, and several dogs were there.
