A Hotel Stay to Remember—If Only I Could Forget It

Upon arriving at the Capri at 5 PM, the warm welcome consisted of one flickering light above the entrance and a shattered glass panel on the door, thoughtfully covered with an assortment of passive-aggressive signage reminding guests to return their key cards or else. Charming.

Check-in was an experience in itself—a masterclass in hostility. Before I could even say “hello,” I was met with a barked demand for my ID, as if I had just wandered into an underground poker game rather than a place advertising itself as hospitality. Directions to my room? Not a chance. A vague hand-wave and a scowl were the only navigational aids provided.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. Want to call the front desk? Good luck. There’s no phone in the room, and mysteriously, no listed hotel phone number anywhere. Naturally, I drove back to the front office, only to find it deserted, a ghost town of neglect. The Wi-Fi? Found it on TripAdvisor because apparently, expecting that information inside the room was too much to ask.

The room itself was… minimalistic, but not in an aesthetic way. There wasn’t a single hook to hang anything on, because why would you need to hang things? It’s not like people travel with coats, towels, or dignity. The bathroom was stocked with a single-use toothpaste but, crucially, no soap—perhaps a nod to the hotel’s commitment to questionable hygiene standards.

The parking lot outside my room was bustling with colorful characters, a mix of night owls and folks engaged in activities best left unspoken. It was illuminated like a maximum-security prison, which I suppose was meant to be reassuring? Spoiler: it wasn’t.

Temperature control? A bold assumption. The thermostat did absolutely nothing, and in the middle of a February snowstorm, my room maintained a steady, bone-chilling 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Cozy. The bed was adorned with just a sheet and a folded-up duvet—unfolding it revealed an extra surprise: what can only be described as rodent excrement. Five-star touches, truly.

Coffee? Not in the room. Not in the lobby. Not anywhere. But honestly, the lobby is less a lobby and more a 1970s New York halfway house, complete with an ambiance that makes you question your life choices.

Security is a top priority here—at least, according to the key card, which contains multiple steps for personal safety, the first being to deadbolt your door. Small problem: my deadbolt didn’t work. Since there are no chairs in the room either, my only real security measure was wishful thinking.

If you’re looking for a place that offers an immersive survivalist experience, complete with unhelpful staff, questionable cleanliness, and an atmosphere that screams “unsolved mysteries,” then congratulations, you’ve found it! Otherwise, save yourself the trauma and book literally anywhere else.

Place has horrible customer service. Rooms look very trashy. There is no good tv service. Your cell will be having service issues as well. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone

Rooms have been updated and are nothing flashy. Not a bad room for the price. Paying with cash is allowed and no credit or debit card required for security deposit. If you’re looking for a decent room and don’t want to spend a lot this place isn’t a bad place to stay the night.
One big negative is there are no microwaves or fridges in the rooms.

Listen this place wouldn't be bad especially being cheap they have updated but the staff freaken rude! We stayed for a couple days but no hot water, a king size bed that you can feel the springs and 2 pillows that were like Lil couch pillows, again it's ok for the price but front desk nooo personality very rude as if you are doing something wrong meanwhile pple are coming in with their "johns", wifi is spotty and tv has a crack in the screen, volume goes up and down , like I said cheap but if it's gonna be like this then it should cheaper! Cause you are paying for all that and when u get none of it and try to say something they wanna argue with you. I can understand why the updates are slow. They have been updating the place since 1912! 1 🌟

If you can stay ANYWHERE ELSE even your car, stay there instead. Rooms are FILTHY, drug bags, paraphernalia, burns everywhere, syringes in the sofa , in drawers , under beds. The room had roaches everywhere . When I asked for a new room they declined and I had to lose the 3 nights I paid for in advance to leave and stay at another hotel for 3 nights that didn’t have these issues. DO NOT BOOK HERE. They will steal your money, and try to kick you out when you bring up their hotel problems! Lots of drug activity… doing.. selling.. copping … fights all night long, parties and openly doing drugs outside and in hallways all night long.
DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE
Lots of people stay here at weekly rates and they are mostly the problem rather than the random one night stayers

I’ve stayed here almost every time I’ve visited my original home area, and it’s a great quiet place. You can always get a room with weekly rates, so it’s great if you’re traveling on a budget. The staff is very friendly and accommodating to my pet rabbits. I’ll give it a top rating of two rabbit ears up!!|( (|( -.-)|o_(“)(“)
