Having lived in the area for most of my life, I took the opportunity to visit this beautiful example of a historical home during Historic New England's free weekend. The home is easy to miss being set back on Main Street/Route 20 in Watertown, between the police station and private property. There is a small gravel driveway to two gravel parking spaces, plus street parking, and is accessible by bus.
This wooden home was owned and added to the Browne family before it was vacated and purchased by a historical society just before the turn of the 20th century. The second floor has photographs showing the extent of damage and the painstaking process to restore the home. The first floor is the only portion that is furnished with period pieces, and there is an attic where you can see old construction techniques. The volunteers are patient and happy to provide information about this property.
I would recommend touring this home if you're interested in early colonial life in New England, restoration of aging homes, or are just curious! When entering use caution, the floors and stairs are uneven, some areas are dark, and the ceiling is low. But it's definitely a worthwhile experience.
