Great place for camping or day use. Visited during Summertime and it’s pretty cool in the shaded campground. Not too far from LA and yet far enough to escape the concrete jungle and city smog. There is a 6 minute drive to Mt. Pinos Nordic Base from the campground. From there you can hike up to the Mt. Pinos summit, it’s about 3.5 RT hike.

Interesting, historical, useful and fun! The visitor center is not only an interesting historical landmark but one that is available for events. Plus the ranger station is located there and if you haven't stopped in the meet the Rangers you should, very nice people who care about the forest, its wildlife and the people that visit it in all its capacity. Plus there are public restrooms across the street and a nature trail behind the visitor center. And more trails nearby. And and and. The forest is what we make of it. Enjoy, protect and tell others.

Unfortunately it was closed when we showed up, but Spiritwolf was there and showed us around. The hall was so pretty and spacious. He was knowledgeable and had some wonderful stories. The trails were a lot of fun to walk too.

Perfect experience, nicest rangers in Southern California. Reminded me of the good old days in national forests: personal, small town feel. Only two Rangers work there, Errol and Spiritwolf; I got the impression they really love their work and forest. Very helpful, knowledgeable. They really care about the area and helping you enjoy the forest.

Pretty neat place. They have a cool little "museum" of the local flora and fauna. Worth taking a look at!

The park rangers are super friendly and helpful. I hope the shutdown ends soon as many rangers are on furlough. Be aware this location is about the last spot where you barely have cell phone reception.
