Broke my hip on a Friday evening and layed in bed at Bay Pines until the following Tuesday for surgery. They would not a full replacement and consequently had to have a second surgery a year later at aHip and Knee Replacement Center where the told me the device put in by Bay Pines was too small to fit my hip properly. Also be aware Bay Pines has no trauma center so no emergency surgery on a weekend. Orthopedic Department Head was non responsive when I asked to be put on an IV for dehydration. Another Dr in a different VA department upon visiting me as a friend had to call the Department Head a insist I be giving an IV upon seeing I was dehydrated.
Worst experience in my life laying in bed with a broken hip from Friday evening to Tuesday afternoon for surgery. That's life threatening.
The only good in that experience was the excellent care given by the nurses.

Well they definitely have job security. While driving yesterday morning a V.A van with a government license plate, illegally tried to switch lanes and i honked then he proceeded to almost run me off the road and side swiped my front drivers side....KICKER HE DROVE AWAY.........i have it ALLLLLL on my dash cam. I informed the police unfortunately the only thing they were helpful with was finding out who the license plate belonged to. The police also persuaded me to not file a police report (stupid me because later on i had to, and I have never been in an accident so I didn't know).

So I had a wakeboarding accident around Labor Day 2023, and I KNEW I ruptured my lat or some surrounding muscle. I go to the VA immediately for an mri & the doctors there would NOT allow me to get an mri or schedule one. They made me get an X-Ray. The results didn’t show anything but iron (from the blood of the tear) and they decided nothing was necessary. It is now 1 year later and They have finally allowed me to get an MRI during walk in hours…and of course We find that my teres major has been fully ruptured. No follow up treatment or communication from anyone. It has been over 3 weeks since seeing my results. In pain everyday and can’t even call in to my doctor because currently their phone lines do not work. The VA is the biggest joke of a healthcare system there is & not one person in those buildings actually care. If You have an issue, go to a normal hospital or urgent care and then take the info from that appt to the VA within 72hrs. Avoid the VA at all costs

There is construction at the Canteen so the rear entrance and parking lot are closed. You have to park in west parking and walk half a mile or more to get to the front entrance of the Canteen building. Today is an extreme heat alert and advisory. WHERE ARE THE SHUTTLES? Some people can't walk that far in this heat!

My dad was admitted to the hospice unit in Dec 2018. I’ll never forget the level of respect, kindness and stellar care that he received from the nursing staff. I was welcomed, as his caregiver, with warm compassion. I will forever be grateful to them for the best care that my dad could get during his last days. Dr. Farulla is amazing. Everyone was just wonderful.

My son, an Iraq war veteran, was treated by an amazing intelligent
talented and professional team of doctors and nurses. From the crisis call
line lady to the ER staff especially Mike
RN to Nicole RN on the Flight Deck we wish to thank you for taking such great care of our beloved son and the dignity and respect and compassion you treat our veterans with. This hospital is a very sacred place and the staff realizes this.
Thanks for being there.
