There's really too much awesomeness to type in here. This place is truly special. And even that is a massive understatement.I relish that alot of folks don't know about this forest and the even juicier Sipsey Wilderness locked inside of it's boundaries. Maybe the lack of notoriety will keep this special place special for years to come. I have a 5 & 7 year daughter and they absolutely love this place and all the nooks, crannies, and magic it has to offer. They can't wait to go back and sleep in the woods every time we head back home. Oh, and the waterfalls 😅 Let's just say there are a few of those as well 😉

Land of 1,000 waterfalls.
Some easy to get to, but the best are the ones that are kept a secret from those who trash and deface this beautiful forest.
Leave No Trace!!

Bankhead National Forest is a nice place to spend time for the whole family. The forest is beautiful and covers a lot of land. There are both paved and gravel roads through the forest. There are lots of hiking trails, horse trails, waterfalls etc. Corinth Campground is one of the nicest campgrounds that we have ever been to. Full hookups ups plus lots of space between sites. It also has access to Smith Lake. There is both a swimming area plus a nice boat ramp. We are lucky to have this in Albama.

Beautiful landscape and the essence of Alabama charm and natural beauty. But please always keep in mind that this is a wilderness not a national park and getting lost is very easy even for experienced backpackers. Don't forget to come prepared with enough food and water in case of an emergency. lots of short and lots of very long trails to enjoy

Please go early in the day. Most of the trails are clear, but it is easy to get lost or misplace yourself on the trail. 209 is stunning but a huge thank you to other hikers for placing markets, as there are NONE. No bathrooms, go before you go.

Good trails, not much elevation. Unfortunately they are the worst marked trails I've ever hiked. Lost internet service a few miles in. Some really cool rock formations. Have a map downloaded ahead of time.

Beautiful hike along the creek bank to see an incredible water fall, with many more along the way. Natures mighty power in the creek that has stayed the course for many, many years. At times the creek was calm and almost seemed still in some parts while other sections displayed the this incredible power in a rushing rage of turbulence. We saw multiple groups with many age ranges represented. Will certainly be doing this hike again with much more time to spend exploring the surrounding areas. Would certainly recommend making it a day trip.
