The Avenue of the Giants is a scenic highway in northern California, United States, running through Humboldt Redwoods State Park. It is named after the coastal redwoods that tower over the route. The full avenue will take about 2.5 hours, and that's without stopping to take pictures or hiking the groves. If you can, plan on spending half a day to get the most out of Avenue of the Giants. This famed road, easily the most scenic drive among the redwoods, has been called the finest forest drive in the world.

Most amazing experience, we felt like little ants crawling the ground watching giants above us. It's humbling and energizing. Will definitely go back to spend more time there, maybe camp.

There are some seriously huge redwood trees here.

If standing amongst botanical giants that have been around longer than most religions, this is a great place to visit.

Don’t just stop at the points of interest, pull over wherever the road widens and walk a few dozen yards off the road. The scenery is strangely the same yet extremely different at every interval.

I was expecting the last pullout to be basically the same as the previous two dozen and they probably are if you just sit in the car. But if you turn the key off and immerse yourself in the beauty of these huge witnesses to history, it’s amazing. Touch them, breathe with them and walk the circumference of their centuries of existence. It’s awesome and humbling.

TLDR: If you hate driving slow, taking in scenery or staring at trees, take the 101.

Amazing scenic alternate route. We absolutely loved the drive. We drove NB in late September, there was a road closure so we had to take the 101 N to the next exit and start from that point. From there we drove north until the Giant Redwoods ended. We stopped at a small rest area where you get to drive through a redwood!!!

This is the Steinbeck musem in Salinas CA the town where John Steinbeck was born. For those who love Steinbecks work the museam is fun interesting and informative. I stayed far longer than I anticipated and bought one of his works on the way out. If you are neat Salinas don't miss it.
