The Alachua County Board of Public Instruction contracted with the firm of Winston and Perry to build a 3-story brick building for the Archer School, west of an old wood frame building, in 1917. The building housed grades 1-10 until 1925 when the 11th and 12th grades were added. Archer High School gained its accreditation in 1926, and graduated its first senior class that same year. Construction began in 1936 on a new gymnasium building as part of the New Deal Works Progress Administration Project 1189, and was completed the following year. The gymnasium was used as an auditorium for school activities and sporting events such as basketball. The school continued to offer high school classes until 1951, and in 1954 the school was reduced to grades 1-6 with kindergarten added in 1963. In 1969, the school consolidated with the local African-American school, and moved to a new location. The old brick school was demolished in 1972. This gymnasium building remained. The City of Archer and volunteers rehabilitated the building and reopened it as the Archer Community Center in July 2011.

I’m not sure this will matter, because folks love a good deal. The building is a great price & nice so I get it, that’s the reason I wanted it. I paid my deposit 7 months in advanced. No one followed up on my deposit once it was received & I only know it was received because I sent it certified mail to ensure that it was reviewed. When I called to make sure I was booked it was as if I was bothering them, if someone sends you a check & contract maybe YOU should reach out to them to solidify things, just a thought. I never received a way to get into the building until the day of, when I called them. I will suggest that The City of Archer have a better system for renting this building. On 9/23/22 I requested an invoice via email that was never received. This led to an unpleasant experience & lapse in cleaning that was no fault of mine. I asked for it MONTHS ago. In 2023 copies of contracts should be sent to people along with an invoice for your remaining balance. Don’t ever email, it won’t be answered & when you speak to someone over the phone make SURE that they are looking at your contract when they speak to you. It could save you!

Nice little place to hold an event. Commercial double fridge. Two microwaves. Industrial triple sink. No stove though. We set up a couple of cookers up outside the kitchen. Big bathrooms. Stage with seating for a hundred people

Beautiful building... has a kitchenette but no ice machine.. plenty of parking..but could be managed better.. would be a great spot for more local events
