The Aravaipa Canyon is a lot of fun. I've hiked it several times over the years - although I have never hiked all the way through. I've always started at one end, and hiked in half way and returned back to the same trailhead. One year the water was very high (see the photos), and we had to carry our gear on our heads. There is plenty of lush trees and plants, and is really a nice paradise. Enjoy!

this is the best hiking and camping experience i've ever had. whatever footwear you use is probably going to get destroyed from walking miles in the creek, but whatever. it's a very interesting spot due to a unique intersection of ecosystems. i think there's water here year round. i think camping overnight as many nights as you can makes sense here because there are a lot of cool day hikes you can do that are offshoots of the main creek/canyon area. horse head and booger are super cool.

Aravaipa is amazing - FROM THE EAST ENTRANCE. It's lush and full of wildlife in the summer and fall. Fun little drive in for the first couple miles and then hiking beyond. The trails are soft and easy hiking. It's worth the drive from Phoenix - it doesnt feel like you're in AZ anymore.

Unfortunately, we tried to cut corners this year and drive to the west entrance. Oof. Way different. Dry, dusty desert and you must hike over a mile to get to the greenery. Very different from the east entrance.

We will be back, but only to the East side.

Beautiful area, I hope it remains unknown to the masses. Its Southeastern AZ best kept secret.

I have made a goal to visit Aravaipa Canyon every year, that’s how amazing it is! I have taken my kids here multiple times backpacking and am now looking to take friends and share it with them. Absolutely gorgeous!

It also looks beautiful in winter! Just be careful, there are a lot of broken rocks and ice on the mountain。

Do not go up the rough road unless you have a BLM permit. There is no sign indicating this until you arrive. The creek looks very inviting along the way but all access is privately owned and the residents are quite protective of their land.

Aravaipa Canyon is one of the most beautiful spots in the western states. My family homesteaded 160 acres there in the 1800s, where my great-grandfather grew over 1,000 peach trees, apple, pear, apricot and quince trees, and 1/2 acre of beautiful blackberries.

Go about 20 miles south, and you will come to Kielberg Canyon, Creek, Peak, Dam and Tank named for my great-grandfather Emil Kielberg, Sr. This is another beautiful canyon. Want more information? Read my book, "Journey to Aravaipa Canyon- Pioneers in the Territory of Arizona." (Amazon or Barnes & Noble.)
