My mom spent 3.5 weeks here, and I must say, we were very happy with the care she received. Kushie, the nurse manager, went above and beyond to make sure she had what she needed, when she needed it. She was very responsive and attentive to our needs. Kushie and the entire staff was amazing, so kind and caring. I can’t thank them enough for taking such great care of my mother.

My 98 year old mom just spent approx. 5 weeks at Aberjona Rehab and Nursing. A few setbacks kept her there longer than expected but our family always felt she was in good hands. The nursing staff and aides were very attentive to her needs. Nursing manager Kushie Rana is a gem. Kushie continued to call with updates and personally checked in on mom, sat with mom when needed and ordered special meals. Aberjona is very lucky to have such dedication. I could ask a thousand questions and never felt that I was being a bother.
All nurses and aides were pleasant. They treated mom with care and respect. PT and OT got mom back walking and case manager George would swing by mom's room with updates when he knew family was there. Overall, very pleased with mom's care.

Everyone that we came in contact with was so nice! Doctors, nurses, aids, house keeping and office staff. They all took very good care of my mother. The OT and PT was very, very good! The facility was very clean! Overall, we were extremely happy with my mom‘s care.

My aunt is there for rehab. What a joke!! For the last 2days she was supposed to get up and walking according to what we were told. Didn’t happen. I was asked by her roommate to ask the ‘nurses’ to help her get into bed. I asked and I was told ‘I am not going to do that’!! This was about 3:15. I told her I was just asking for a patient who was uncomfortable. The nurse(?) told me to tell her they will be there after dinner!! Remember this was at 3:15!! My aunt was doing great until she got there. My feeling about this place is that it doesn’t matter what the patient needs, it’s about, well, how much they get from insurance. The powers that be (management) need to be better and make their patients the priority. I’m very disappointed with this place. I will let everyone I know to not have their loved ones go to this place. I’m no kid. I’m 72 years old. I know how seniors with health problems should be treated. Be better!

MEDICAL INCOMPETENCE!
Read fully, it’s long, but it’s regarding care.
My dad was sent here for rehab for recovering of UTI and weakness, and the only good staff here is the PT. The place had the following issues:
1. My father has dementia, even with the bed alarm, staff would rarely check when the alarm was going off. Not sure if it was because the facility was ALWAYS understaffed from 4pm onwards & less over the weekends.
2. Apparently, every patient is supposed to have a TB test on the day of admission from the care staff. Although my dad doesn’t have TB, the nursing home didn’t follow their own policy till the Monday after he was admitted there. … Meaning - there’s a risk to other patients.
3. Within the first 24hrs, my father needed a rescue inhaler, the facility had no idea if they even had any. It was quicker for me to grab one from home & rush it over there.
4. Due to the IV antibiotics, my father needed an access point for the medication - none of the staff were certified to get access or draw blood over the weekend - we had to wait till Monday for someone. Which meant, my father didn’t receive medication for what he needed to be treated for the initial 3 days
5. Due to his infection, we were told that no one will be sharing a room/bathroom with him. However he had roommates with infections. Later to find out the staff didn’t inform either patients or families what’s going on regarding safety from infection, as both had infections.
6. An order came in once for an urine sample, staff told my mom: “he is your husband, you can get the urine sample”
7. One evening I asked for an update abt how many more days of IV antibiotics my father has left and what did the urine analysis results say. The nurse just handed me the paperwork, never went through the results or anything else with me.
8. When issues 1-6 was brought up to the supervisors & case manager within 5 days of being there. We were told they would look into it, but nothing improved nor any improvement plan was implemented about his care.
9. Sometime between 10pm November 8, 2024 to 4am November 9, 2024 my father had a stroke but no one checked on him till 4:30am, by the time he reached the hospital it was 5:30am (guestimation) where the ED doctors could not give him the appropriate medication for recovery. Essentially this facility never checked on a dementia patient for 6.5hrs for whatever reasoning.
My father stayed here for 8 nights of recovery, I should not have 9 complaints (if not more) and months of recovery for him from this facility.
As a former EMT and still working in the healthcare, this facility needs to be shut down immediately. Upper management is not taking care of the staff or facility properly. Upper management is not appropriately staffing nights and weekends. Staff are not getting proper training in care of others, manners or communications. Staff is so burned out, they are rude to patients and family members. Family members are doing more care for the patient(s) than the staff.
In addition, my uncle and I went to talk to the Director of Administration (Michelle Minghela) and the Director of Nursing (Dina Surpris) on December 23, 2024. They stated they’d do an investigation and email me the details of my father’s care by December 30, 2024. When I followed up with Dina on January 2, 2025, she and Michele wanted to do a phone call, instead of emailing me as they stated. When I requested the details over email before I discuss anything with them over the phone, they did not care to respond back. Which makes me think, they don’t want the wrongdoing of the rehabilitation center on paper.
Aberjona does not deserve 1/5 rating of how disorganized and lack of care their staffing has. State Board of Health and other Healthcare Officials need to start investigating into this place, talk to patients and families, SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!

My mom ended up at the STR first floor and was there for 20 days, due to her disease she did not progress and we made the difficulty decision to seek Long Term Care and a blessing was a bed on the 3rd floor. My family can not say enough about the staff there. My dad felt supported and felt like they were family. From the social worker to the unit manager Beverly, and the CNA's and nurses and all the staff were so caring and gentle and provided us with care and support. Thank you Aberjona!

My father was in the short term rehab section of Aberjona in a shared room. The room was pretty small but the facility was very well staffed. The aides and nurses were very attentive and responsive. They were proactive with toileting which was very helpful since he wasn’t always able to ask for assistance. They also have a speech therapist on staff who was very helpful with cognitive and eating/swallowing issues. PT and OT were also very good and dad had both one on one and group therapy.

The case manager George was very helpful in determining the next steps and coordinating discharge with all the needed equipment.

Overall Aberjona was a good choice for his rehab. Thanks to all the staff for your hard work - such a difficult job!

This is our second visit to Aberjona and once again, the care and therapy made it possible for my 87 year old mother to return to her home. Part of our success was the level of comfortable surroundings, like the sun filled dining room and sitting areas which made it feel less like a hospital. A big shout out to outstanding staff Kushie Rana. She become part of our family for the month we were there. She always knew what we needed and was on top of everything. Also very grateful to Suzanne in Admissions and Frances in Social Services and Linda the hairdresser.
