Spring Wildflower Walk with China

If you're looking to truly experience the magic of spring in the Smokies, the 5-hour Wildflower Tour with Walk in the Woods is a must. I recently had the pleasure of taking this tour and was absolutely blown away. Our guide, China, led us on a beautifully customized hike from the Townsend Visitor’s Center, handpicking the trail based on where the wildflowers were peaking that day.

As a photographer, I tend to linger for the perfect shot, and China was wonderfully patient, never rushing the experience. Her deep knowledge of the flora—and the park as a whole—made the tour so much more than just a hike. She pointed out dozens of wildflower varieties I would have easily missed, and her genuine enthusiasm for the Smokies was absolutely contagious.

This tour was the perfect way to connect with nature and see the Park at its vibrant best. Highly recommend a tour with Walk in the Woods for nature lovers, hikers, and photographers alike!

Our tour with Kelly was absolutely AMAZING! I couldn't have asked for a better tour of Smoky Mountain National Park. Our group included ages from 7-70+ with my son, daughter, husband, and parents coming along for the day and every single one of them enjoyed the tour. The amount of information that Kelly shared gave us so much background and appreciation for the history of the park, aside from just the beautiful scenery. She was full of local knowledge and historical details that brought so much more meaning to everything we saw along the way.
The small hikes we took were long enough for us to appreciate the outdoors without being too much for anyone in group to handle. She also took us to a few cascades and spent time with my son searching for salamanders, which became the high light of the entire vacation for him. She didn't even just point out rocks to flip over. She was in the water and actively searching with him, climbing around the area, and helping him excitedly search, all while also making sure he was careful in navigating the slippery rocks.
We've taken lots of trips as a family, but this was truly a favorite for all of us and we were blown away with the entire tour. Thank you so much to A Walk in the Woods, and especially to Kelly for creating such a wonderful day of fun and memories that the whole family was able to enjoy. They still can't stop talking about how great the entire day was and I know those will be unforgettable memories.

We had an amazing experience on the full-day Smokies tour with A Walk in the Woods, all thanks to our fantastic guide, Samantha. Her passion for nature, deep knowledge, and storytelling made the entire hike engaging and unforgettable. She showed us hidden gems, explained local wildlife and plants, and made the forest truly come alive. If you’re visiting the Smokies, I highly recommend this tour—especially with Samantha as your guide!

It was the PERFECT way to see the Smoky mountains- probably the best part of our 3-day Smoky mountains trip! Our guide, Samantha, was very knowledgeable and an excellent story teller, full of amazing information about the flora/fauna of the place and its rich history. We explored places we couldn't have figured on our own. Tour was a mix of car ride and walk which kept things moving at a good pace. The tour was customised completely as per the type of places we wanted to explore and itinerary was modified on-the-go based on the changing weather conditions, ensuring we get the most out of our time. The hikes were gorgeous and mostly to non-touristy places which made our overall experience feel very exclusive. Samantha was excellent with her guidances, anecdotes and conversations and we felt engrossed throughout.

This team seems like a very passionate group and is doing great work by creating such an authentic tour of the park interiors. Our group of 4 adults left feeling extremely content with the overall experience. It was every bit worth the price.

The 8 mile hike covered some of the most beautiful area of the Smoky Mountains. We walked to the Ramsey Cascade waterfall, had a lunch break at this breathtaking site, and then headed back down the mountain. Our guide Mike shared info about the wildlife and vegetation as we walked. He was knowledgeable, funny, and considerate. Well worth the time and cost!

I took my kids (8 & 5) to a Gatlinburg/Smokeys vacation for spring break. We did the Exploring Nature with Children tour and loved it to much we booked the Scenic River Walk tour a few days ago. We had Luci both times. This was a priceless experience. Luci was top-notch. Perfect amount of hiking and stopping and enjoying the little things. She is very in tune with kids and how they operate and the present moments of watching butterflies and encouraging wonder and inquiry was just what we needed. Luci is someone who you can tell loves what she does and that energy was magnetic. She knew history, plant identification, and was just all-around wonderful. We will absolutely book again when we get back to the Smokeys. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

We used A Walk in the Woods to shuttle our group of 8 Leconte Lodge hikers from Rainbow Falls trailhead to Alum Cave trailhead. Our driver, Luci, had an awesomely engaging personality and calm demeanor as we all frantically loaded up our backpacks for the overnight stay. I highly recommend using this company for not only shuttle services but guiding as well - Luci provided our group with a great overview of GSMNP during our short ride - we wanted to take her up the mountain with us!
