Love this local park . Great for kids . Great play ground . Need trails to connect tar camp to lock five that would be worth the investment on the white bluffs

Spent one night here before the eclipse in 2024. Very nice place. Spacious campsites, covered picnic tables . Lots of firewood available. Very quiet. A little out of the way but worth the drive. No sewer hook up but does have a dump station,

Tar Camp Park truly exceeded all of my expectations in every way imaginable. As I entered the park, I was immediately struck by its stunning natural beauty, particularly the picturesque lakefront that serves as a central feature of the grounds. The lake was alive with activity, as numerous visitors were engaged in fishing, casting their lines into the shimmering water, and enjoying the tranquil atmosphere. It was a delightful sight to see families and friends gathered together, sharing moments of laughter and excitement as they tried to catch fish.

In addition to the lake, the park boasts immaculate campgrounds that are well-maintained and inviting. Each campsite is thoughtfully spaced out, providing a sense of privacy while still allowing for a communal experience with fellow campers. The facilities are clean and well-equipped, making it easy for visitors to set up their homes away from home comfortably.

One of the standout features of Tar Camp Park is the abundance of shade trees that dot the landscape. These towering trees not only provide relief from the sun but also create a serene ambiance, making it a perfect spot for picnics, reading, or simply relaxing with nature. The gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze adds to the park's peaceful atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience.

As I explored the park, I was particularly captivated by the breathtaking fall foliage. The changing colors of the leaves painted the landscape in brilliant hues of red, orange, and yellow, creating a stunning visual feast that was nothing short of magical. The sight of the vibrant foliage mirrored in the lake was a scene I won’t soon forget, making it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

In summary, Tar Camp Park is a hidden gem that offers a remarkable blend of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and a sense of community. Whether you are an avid fisherman, a camping enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, you will undoubtedly find joy and satisfaction in every corner of this beautiful park. I can confidently say that you will not be disappointed with a visit to Tar Camp Park, particularly during the enchanting fall season when its beauty is at its peak.

I have visited several state parks in arkansas and usually only camp in state parks. I read the reviews about this being a “rare gem” and it did not disappoint. This park is beautiful, spacious, and clean. The camp host/workers take pride in keeping it clean and it shows. Mowed frequently. Clean restrooms. I felt like family instead of a guest. This place is amazing and i cant wait to visit again. The only negative thing would be cell service. I have Att and had one bar. I had a few dropped calls but was able to use my hot spot.

This is a ACOE campground along the Arkansas River. Nice option to camp a night or a couple of weeks. It’s very clean and well maintained. Warm showers and good restroom facilities. There is a playground for the kids and shore fishing for all.

We wanted a quiet spot in nature to rest this weekend and we picked Tar Camp Park because we had never visited. What a beautiful surprise! You even get a boat show with barge runs and tugs blaring horns at children waving. It's pristine and quiet rest on the Arkansas River. Visit soon!

*Still need the dump station finished!*
