This station, much like most in America, desperately needs more sensitivity training on dealing with mentally ill and disabled individuals. I'm autistic and had a horribly traumatic interaction with some local police and was taken from my own home and then charged medical bills I can't afford (seemingly because of a lack of knowledge and understanding of the people they are supposed to help and protect). Pretty shitty and avoidable in my opinion. I'd really like to see the police force do better for it's community, especially for those who get overlooked or mistreated.

I would like to share my experience with the Westfield PD. Officer Dewey Abney pulled me over tonight, followed me from his little speed trap spot and followed me until I was all the way off the highway, then he lit me up. I was following traffic, not speeding, had my seatbelts on and used correct driving practices. Upon walking up to my window and asking for my license registration and insurance, he asked ‘ why did you jerk your wheel when you went into the exit lane?’ Confused I pretty much told him I didn’t know what he was talking about, that I have been driving safely and just taking a Sunday evening drive. He went back to his car, and came back to me with a warning for ‘disregarding lighted signal’ explaining that I was ‘too fast’ coming off the highway and into the right hand turn lane. Now at this point I know he’s full of crap because he has obviously been following me since he left his speed trap nest on the highway (probably looking for a reason to try and pull me over), and he led with a completely different reason than the one I was getting ‘warned’ for. I didn’t say anything when he asked if I had any questions. My warning to others is when you are driving thru Westfield beware of the police officers. They are excellent fisherman, because when they pull you over assuming they’re gonna be able to find something condemning they’re gonna realize they’re wrong and then come up with a lie to try and pin the blame on you. Especially be warned if your vehicle is an older one, 20 or more years old, because you are just painting a target on your back for these lying cops. Both of my vehicles are from the last century and the cops eyes are always on me, especially in Carmel as well as Westfield. I was pulled over earlier probably about a month ago, again by Westfield PD, and for a valid reason- tag light was out. However upon releasing me the officer was again fishing for evidence, saying things like ‘your eyes are red, are you sure you haven’t been doing anything tonight’. First off no, I have my CDL, my career relies on keeping a clean driving record as well as a clean urine sample. It’s just things like that and they make you realize how this police department isn’t here to protect and to serve you, they serve themselves, these officers only care about their quota. It’s not every officer but it’s an alarming amount. Drivers beware.

Typical hick Indiana police force. Got pulled over for using cell phone and the stop took over an hour since they needed to search my truck for ‘drugs, paraphernalia, and/or weapons’. 3 patrol cars and a hour later I’m finally able to leave after they sheepishly admitted maybe they were wrong.

My mom had to leave a dangerous situation. She asked for a police escort back onto jointly owned property in order to obtain her medication because my father is not safe to be around. The officer told her no because the situation posed too much of a risk. What the hell are the police for if not to PROTECT AND SERVE?

I'm from out of town and locked my keys in my truck while getting gas.

I called the police station. The officer was extremely helpful.

Officer showed up in about 10 minutes. 20 degrees and snowing and he had a smile on his face and couldn't have been nicer. And he was able to get my vehicle unlocked!

Great experience with the Westfield police department.

I got a ticket “Failed to yield to emergency vehicle displayed”, even though I did slow down 15 miles below posted speed limit since could not move over to the left lane and officer that pulled me over said that the speed limit is actually drops down to 30 in that area and no longer 45 and it was between Oak ridge rd and Wheeler rd on RT32 in Westfield IN. I went and checked the next day if that was true or not to make sure I was at fault and it was 45 not 30 like officer was saying… He was very disrespectful and when I told him that I haven’t gotten any tickets in IN since I moved here 9 years ago he accused me of lying referring that I do have tickets on my license since 10 years ago that I got in NJ. I am a law abiding citizen and hold my CDL license since 2010 and very well aware of speed limits and all the FMCSA regulations, but that night on January 25 of this year when I got pulled over on my personal vehicle I felt discriminated and after the fact I found out that I was right about posted speed limit it made me think what was the purpose of this unfair ticket and unprofessional behavior from Westfield PD officer. I am a sheriff association supporter and did not ever took it for granted all I want is to support our troops, but I wish there would be more professionals of their field and professional behavior towards any race nationality or background. I hired a Lawer and will be going to the court regarding this ticket to dismiss it and strongly suggest to fight everyone for their rights. It clearly show on the picture that there will be 30 mile limit drop ahead and police car that I was passing pulled someone over right in front of Grand Park sign where speed limit was still 45. I also have Navigation on my car that shows the speed limit in that area and I asked my friend to take video of it as well him being on the passenger seat while I was driving through that area showing correct speed limit for court evidence.

So, a little over 3 years ago... I was arrested in fairly extreme way.
I got blackout drunk, shot my gun at my neighbors, walked home and went to sleep.
This ensued a long 5 hour long standoff with the police surrounding my house and asking me to come outside. (Meanwhile I was passed out on my couch- with a loaded sawed off shotgun on my table)
Now, luckily, the crime I committed resulted in nobody being hurt.
Now- 3 years later. I finally served my time for my crime. And it's behind me.
But... there isn't a single day of my life that goes by that I don't have incredible gratitude of this organization.
When they kicked in my door and woke me up... they didn't know what was on the other side of that door. All they knew was, the guy inside just shot a gun at some people. They could have killed me... and it would have been justified. No one would have questioned it- if they took my life that day.
But they didn't. Had I committed this crime anywhere else in the world, I'd be dead.
Thanks to their extrodinary professionalism, their restraint on the use of force, and there incredible training- I am alive today.
I am alive today- BECAUSE OF THIS DEPARTMENT.
I am, forever grateful, and in humble admiration and respect of this extraordinary organization.

Locked myself out at the Kroger's parking lot, dispatcher was friendly/professional, and the officer (M.H.) arrived to assist in less than 5 minutes! I'm very GRATEFUL.
