Stayed at The Laurel while attending a swim meet and on balance, the experience was very good. The service was friendly, personable, and very professional. They did seem to have some staffing shortfalls, which I attributed to not having enough people available to do things like answer the phone at the concierge or front desk. Although they did not answer phone calls consistently, they would always call back quickly, which was nice.

The property is beautiful, and a partnership between staff and students. Part of the hotel is in fact occupied by visiting instructors, which makes it interesting. Students and staff were on different floors than the guests apparently, and it was not a distraction in any way. Super interesting concept in fact. We hardly saw any other guests until we went up to the rooftop bar after checkin (they have a beautiful pool!) but it was at breakfast on our checkout day that we realized there were actually a significant number of guests.

The rooftop bar was beautiful, and has a working garden. In fact, one of the students, apparently tasked to find a particular type of herb, was up there with his instructor/mentor trying to find the right item. The rooftop bar had food which was a mix of quality. The Mezza platter was very good, while the Shishito peppers were done in a very heavy and doughy batter, and did not taste very good. We did not finish them. These peppers are typically prepared with a very light batter, if at all, which results in a little bit of crispiness in some recipes from being blistered on high heat. This was missing in the peppers we sampled, as they were soggy and covered in batter. The drinks were very well prepared!

The room was luxurious and extremely well appointed. The welcome amenities in the form of snacks were quite excellent. Truly. There were some problems in the room, which we ended up reporting as we found them. The coffee maker, a Nespresso, would not work properly, so the front desk sent a container of coffee up to us. The phone would not work at all, which was quite frustrating. They sent someone up to our room to try to troubleshoot it, and found out it was plugged into the wrong jack! Not sure how that would have happened, but not being able to use the phone was irritating. The handset would also not charge, so the only way to use the phone, once we got it working, was to use the speaker feature. Lastly, the high-tech switches for many of the things in the room were irritating. Not intuitive, and overly complicated. Paint was also worn off a number of the switches, making them hard to read. We basically just ended up randomly pushing buttons, trying to get certain features to work.

Breakfast was exceptional. Both in variety, taste and visual appeal. They had a good amount of staff, appropriate seating, and a dazzling variety of high-quality and tasty options. One of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had anywhere, and I have stayed in some very nice hotels. Bravo.

All of the staff we encountered were friendly, professional, and generally very knowledgeable.

My reason for not giving the property an overall rating of five was due to the odd combo of things which were undoubtedly five star, mixed with a number of problems that you would just not expect to encounter at a five star property, which I have articulated above. I think the switches need to be examined in the rooms to see if the wear and tear was unique to our room – I suspect not – or more systemic. Also, perhaps re-labeling the types of switches that you have would be more user-friendly. In reading other reviews, I see we were not the only people to mention this. I think an additional person available to handle calls at the front desk or concierge would also be useful, as it seemed like staff was pulled in multiple directions or had multiple jobs. I would enjoy staying at this property again, and do realize that it is an unusual mix of professional luxury hotel with academic training facility. I look forward to my next visit. With a few tweaks, the hotel would be really exceptional.

From the time you enter this hotel, it is luxury all the way. Location is amazing with 360° wraparound roof rooftop bar views. Private hotel, gas pool is amazing especially at night to enjoy a cocktail and dessert. My room was plush, luxurious, and had cozy robe and spa treatment products that made my stay even more luxurious.|Dessert was amazing. Staff was amazing. Cocktails were lovely. The welcome charcuterie board in my room was a nice touch as well.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary here. To describe in one word….. fabulous!|| The most important thing to me when staying at a hotel is cleanliness… and as expected - it was spotless.|| Some of the things that were our favorites were the complementary e-bikes (we rode bikes everyday), the bed, pillows, and linens were so luxurious, the pool was so nice in the afternoons and the library where they have food presentations throughout the day was fantastic! ||The staff was so helpful, attentive, and great to talk with. We had a great time and would love to come back sometime. ||We only live 30 miles away and was able to take advantage of a local 30% off special so that definitely helped these 2 teachers be able to afford this luxurious get away.

This is a very confusing experience. As 5-Star hotel, it has all the bells and whistles: highly trained staff, impeccable amenities, beautiful rooms, dining extras, but it is very hard to figure out lay out and schedules of hotel and dining areas. The most confusing is navigating the room. Everything is very high-tech done with ipad which we never figured out. Our room phone was not operative so had to call for help with phone, tv and lights (no normal light switches) on my cell phone!!!!| A lovely greeter tries to run through everything in hotel and room on arrival, but so detailed we couldn’t remember anything|It is almost trying too hard!!!

Had a wonderful two night stay. The room was beautiful and the beds extremely comfortable. Only complaint is the "hi tech" lighting controls. Much too complicated. Crazy not too have light switches particularly for the bathroom! The staff were all extraordinarily attentive and eager to please and the foods in "The Library" was delicious. We loved the breakfast. We also loved that most of the staff wetter students - such a wonderful idea.

My stay at The Laurel Hotel & Spa was truly exceptional. From the moment I arrived, the service was top-tier—welcoming, thoughtful, and personalized. Annie and Sabrina made check-in seamless, even upgrading my suite and offering a guided tour. Sally, with her warmth and attentiveness, made the rooftop cabana experience unforgettable. The rooftop lounge, pool, and bar were peaceful and elegant, with music and service that flowed effortlessly throughout the day.

Every detail—from the complimentary treats and curated cocktails to the serene ambiance—felt intentional and elevating. This is a gem in Auburn, and I’m already dreaming of returning for a future retreat with loved ones. Thank you to the entire team for making this stay so special.

We stayed here for a basketball game in February, and decided to come back for a quick two-night, relaxing getaway. The staff is unbelievably accommodating and friendly. The private rooftop pool is a great place to relax, and the poolside bar has great food and drinks. We didn’t utilize the spa, but have heard great things. ā€œThe Libraryā€ is the lobby where you check in, and they provide several food ā€œpresentationsā€ (breakfast, lunch, snack, evening dessert) which are complimentary. Breakfast is phenomenal, and all of the food/pastries are freshly made in-house. Rooms are nice, beds are comfy, and an iPad allows you to control everything from curtains to TV to AC. On the ground level, there is a wonderful coffee shop as well as the ā€œHey Day Marketā€ where you will find a brewery and a food court area. Also on ground level is the 1856 restaurant which is top notch. We did the 8-course tasting which is expensive, but very unique and worth trying out. Auburn’s campus is a fantastic place to go for a walk or bike ride, just across the street from the hotel. All in all a great experience and we will be back again.
