The place is awesome. The name of it is slightly misleading.

Since we have never been here I thought we might be able to go inside a cave and explore around a bit. It’s not a cave, I think it’s called a rock shelter.

I enjoyed it, it’s just not a cave. I’ll likely be back.

The hike from the trail bluff is off of Red Bluff Dr- the cave is RIGHT off the trail head, over turtle rocks. If you go right, the cave is there. If you go left, you’ll be walking down a trail that is rocky on one side, drop off on the other. My 4 and 3 year old did the hike with my and my husband’s help no problem. Plenty of rocky areas to stop and rest , drink water. You can hear the water fall from the trail and can see it a couple of times. Definitely recommend. M

Short hike past the turtle shell rock formations. Well worth the trip. We even found a giant recluse spider deep in the cave. Steep trail, definitely for the sure footed visitor.

Super cool "cave" (actually a rock shelter), so glad we saw it! Pretty short trail and fairly easy but there are some rocky steps. You can actually walk inside (many caves across the US are closed). It's so much bigger than we thought! There are also some pictographs along the walls of the cave which was amazing to see in real life.

The cave is cool to see. This is a very rock climbing trail. Do not bring small kids or small dogs it is not safe for them trying to traverse down the rocks to pass the turtle rocks and to see the cave. If you dont mind carrying them down unsafe rocks go for it. It is a cool hike for people without kids and dogs.

Nice short hike from the Pioneer cabin. I have seen petroglyphs around the world and better able to see those than anything in the cave here mostly due to vandalism. Neat cave and can easily see why used as a shelter. Connects to multiple other trails in the park.

Cool experience. Walk from the parking lot to the cave is not challenging but could be modestly difficult for older folks or young children. The Native cave drawings can be difficult to spot: the "deer head" and another symbol are in the northwest corner of the cave. If you can't spot them, look for the State Park camera attached to a big boulder and follow the camera lens's angle--they're there to protect them. 🙂
