I love the Chester/Lake Almanor area and have been going up there every summer for over 40 years. This is the first time I have stayed at the Seneca Motel. When we go, we are outside all day fishing, hiking, etc. All I am looking for is a place to wash off the dirt at the end of the day, watch a little tv, and have a clean bed to sleep in. The Seneca Motel met those needs. It is old, everything inside is old, but it was roomy with 2 bedroom areas, a small kitchen with a very old but working refrigerator and a microwave. No dishes or other kitchen stuff. The channel selection was decent. The tv was small and older. No coffee maker, no alarm clock. The bed was decent: not great, but not bad. The motel is off the main road, so it was quiet. The price was right too. Originally we were only going to go up for 2 nights, but because of the price, we were able to go for three nights. It is within easy walking distance of stores and eating places. I was happy enough with it, but I'm pretty easy to please. If you like quaint or upscale, you won't be happy.

First of all, I really don't know why other reviews are so bad for this place. We actually found it good. We wanted to visit Lassen on the July 4th long weekend. Because all other properties near the park were booked and this was the only place that was available (thanks to the previous bad reviews), we stayed here. This place has some real advantages. It is really close to the park (45 mins drive) and Chester is a nice place to stay with all restaurant options. The rooms were really basic but clean. I don't think it's fair to expect anything more than what you get for the price you pay. We had a pretty good experience. The host could have been friendlier. She just took our personal information when we arrived and asked us to leave the keys on top of the TV when we check out. And that's it! She never bothered to greet us or have a friendly chat, let alone offer us tips on things to do!

we have stayed here a couple of times during our trips to Lassen National Park and although it is not the taj mahal we find the motel to be clean, quiet and comfortable. They are pet friendly and have a couple of real nice cats to greet you. The owner has a couple of dogs as well but they were contained and seemed well behaved at least when we were there. There was no coffee pot in the room and I am not sure about an ice machine either but the Beacon is about 2 blocks away for that type of stuff. The room we stayed in had a small kitchenette (no dishes) with a stove/fridge/freezer combo. The owner was very nice to us and made us feel welcome. If you are looking for a high end resort atmosphere this is not the place for you but if you have pets and are looking for pet friendly lodging at a decent price we would definitely recommend it.

My boyfriend and his family stay at this hotel when they come up to Chester for opening day of Duck Season. This was my first year going and they thought that I would find it to be lacking quality and shabby but I didn't at all! The room was clean, and everything was in good order. We were in a room that had a kitchen attached and though we were a little surprised that there weren't any cooking utensils or plates, etc. it was easily remidied by the grocery store down the road. The best was the stovetop/fridge combo, seriously, I want one! The bed was comfortable and not noisy, we could hear our neighbors through the wall, but short of re-building they can't really do too much about that. Maybe it is becuase I live in a resort/hotel community and prices that start at $200 for a room each night, I think for what we paid we had a very nice room and a great stay. The people that we met were very friendly and helpful. The cat is still there!

Seneca Motel is a much older Motel so if you're looking for something fancy this isn't the place but if you're looking for somewhere clean quiet and comfortable this is it I'm not sure but I think most of the rooms have kitchenettes which is real nice. Most mornings you'll see the owners Ed and Vicki sitting out on the front porch drinking their morning coffee getting ready to start the day. So remember Seneca Motel is pet friendly in walking distance to the grocery store and the restaurants so I hope you enjoy yourself

No other hotels were available in Chester, so we had no other choice than to stay the night at the Seneca. I will admit that it was in an okay location, but that did not make up for the disgusting beds and room we had to stay in. The place smelled like urine, wet dog, old stuff. The carpet was so dirty that I forced everyone to wear shoes. There wasn't even a remote control for the tv. No ice, no shampoo. Worst night of sleep ever!!!! The place should be condemned.

flew into Reno, headed toward Mt. Lassen, and stayed at the Seneca Motel one night before summiting Lassen the next day, and driving on to Mt. Shasta City in June '09. Looks like it's family run, and they had at least two cats. Sweet. The motel is off the highway, so it loses the traffic noise. It is quaint from the outside, and the rooms are a bit spartan. It was relaxing enough for me, for what it was. Not a resort.

This motel is very run down. We requested a room with two people one bed. Said they could only put us in a room with three beds and only charge us for one bed. The room smelled like a gas leak even after we opened the windows. Went back to the office and requested if another room was available and told the manager why. Her response was "open the windows!!!" We explained to her that we did. Another room with one bed was available. The bathroom showers need to be worked over, room smelled musty. ||Will not go back again.
