This camp site is absolutely a place where you can disconnect (partially). We’ve camped out here a few times and it has always been a great experience great camp sites and even has a shower(1) and a couple toilets for men and women(separately) Very quite, nice, and serene. Definitely a place to check out. Great trails and even a landing where you can watch the bats take off in the evening if you get there at the right time. (At dusk) You should also take the cave tour if you can make sure you reserve your spot in advance as there are only a limited spots available each tour. They only run a Saturdays. Enjoy your stay.

Camped here (site 6, very sheltered, highly recommend for tent camping!) and had a great time. We were only able to stay for one night, but we did a couple of short hikes to the overlooks and did a cave tour. The hiking was so good, even the little we did! Would love to come back and do more. And the cave tour… awesome! We’ve done a bunch of caves but this one was a blast because there are no lights in the cave, you bring your own. And you can touch things! Ashley and Jacob gave an excellent and very fun tour. Did it with our nine year old and she did great. Great visitor’s center with an activity table with kids. Everyone we interacted with in the park was so nice and helpful. It’s also has a very small campground so it’s nice and quiet. Clean restrooms. Have to pack your trash out, which is part of the fun! Highly recommend the trip out! The drive is long but beautiful and the park is worth every mile.

We stayed here as a halfway point from Houston to Big Bend National Park and I would love to return to further explore the park. The camp grounds were clean, quiet and nicely spaced from other sites. They DO NOT offer trash services so be prepared to pack it out. Staff members were extremely welcoming. They do offer a cave tour but it is only on Saturdays by appointment only, so we did not partake. There is also another cave known for its bat colony during the right time of year. We did a few short hikes at sunset and it was beautiful and quiet.

Great place for hiking on trails, visit the cave and meet the bats flying over from cave after sunset.

WORTH THE DRIVE! *Make cave tour reservations well in advance!!* Regarding cave tour KNOW THESE AHEAD OF TIME….. NOT for the disabled. Not a commercialized cave with smooth paths- it’s all rocky and lots of climbing/maneuvering involved. Cave tour is 2.5-3 hours long and no bathroom at cave site (they make a last potty stop on drive out …bathrooms are nice and clean and there’s a shower available inside each) Only 10 people allowed per tour which is at 1:00 on Saturdays and don’t be late- they leave right at 1, putting everyone in a state park shuttle to the site. Bring a flashlight for tour. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and good shoes for climbing over rocks. Bring water-they don’t provide any on tour. Hopefully you’ll have park ranger Matt as your cave tour guide- he was informative, personable and fun. State park personnel were friendly and helpful. Headquarters had activities for children. Camp sites looked tidy. Stuart Bat Cave access is wheelchair friendly. (Aug 2023- very little bat activity due to heat and drought) Closest towns are 30 min drive either way and there is nothing between the park and towns except beautiful land. A great place to completely escape all things urban and truly unplug.

We visited this gem of a state park during spring break! The park ranger was so kind and welcoming. The headquarters has a ton of kid friendly things to do. We took a recommended hike and had a blast! It’s a beautiful and serene place to visit. Thank you for your hospitality!

Awesome park - one of the best kept secrets of the state park system since it is sadly the least visited park (!) Very nice shaded campground with several full hook-up spots. Excellent variety of hiking from easy-to-strenuous - very scenic! Amazing cave tour (bring your own flashlights, awesome formations, be prepared for climbing up and down rocks - it's an adventure). A bat cave as well for viewing their evening flight during specific times of the year. A (very) dark sky park, quiet and peaceful, plus a wonderful staff - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. This park is well worth the trip - highly recommended. Restaurants and groceries only 30 minutes away in Bracketville.

Great park! Beautiful trails filled with interesting insects, plants, birds, bats, and other wildlife. This park had the cleanest trails and campground I had ever experienced. Very friendly park rangers who would stop by for a quick chat and make sure you and your family are doing well and able to answer any question regarding the park.
Things to note before arriving. This site is a no trash site, meaning all trash must leave with you, there are no dumpsters on site; Cellphone service can be non-existent for some carriers, in my case about a half hour before arriving was the last time I had service, this was perfect for our disconnected weekend; Also a half hour out is the closest place to get gas and last minute items or things forgotten; there are less than 20 camping spots making it like you have the trail to yourself; the park is only open Friday to Monday; and last thing to note is Cave tours are scheduled way in advance for 10 people on Saturdays.
