Harbor Stage Co. is a find. Led by four actor-managers with 80+ years combined experience, their work is relevant, challenging, and what we as audiences should expect from live theatre. The marvel is that they’ve been collaborating at Harbor Stage Co. for over 8 years in a small black box, year after year sharing many of their own written plays, and as a result they have created an anthology of written and performed work that is important. Easily more important than most commercial theatre ventures with greater marketing reach. This is not a summer theatre experiment, this is timely art and conversation not to be missed when produced.

Much of what the W.H.A.T. used to be when it inhabited this space but seldom is any more, a place for fresh, original work. I've particularly enjoyed the writing by the members themselves and we make a point of attending during our annual Cape visits.
I'll confess though that this year we are actually opting for a W.H.A.T. performance of "Painting Churches" with my favorite actor from the old days on the harbor Gip Hoppe. Has it been that long? I hope he hasn't gotten -- serious? After all for that, luckily too though I'll miss it, we've got David Mamet - now playing at Harbor Stage.

Always a professional production! Though the scenery may be sparse, the quality of the acting is 1st rate....and the ticket price of $23.00 is ridiculously low. The intention is to make theatre available to all.

A theater. A stage. A play. Lights. Actors. A play.

A p l a y.

A PLAY!

A sermon.

A monolog.

An island.

Water.

A play. Actors. A play.

Made out of words. Brilliant words. And performances. Riveting performances.

At Harbor Stage Company. (Just Harbor Stage Company, not The Harbor Stage Company.)

What do you do? The audience. Do you applaud? Do you make a donation? Or do you choose at act, too. Write a letter. Or is a letter too anachronistic in the digital age.

OK, perhaps an email. A small act. But an act nonetheless.

Last night was amazing.

Brenda, your writing is stunning and lyrical and funny. And btw, despite Stacy’s doubts, I totally believed the witch story.

Stacy, your physical performances are amazing; your face and eyes alone create make your performances unforgettable.

Robert, don’t worry you don’t belong at Epcot Center. And while you’re guitar playing is only OK, I would pay $32.00 to see you anytime.

Jonathan, your two monologs could not have been delivered any more perfectly. The timing was flawless. And the sermon? Well, I had no choice. I had to write this letter of thanks.
