My wife and I have stayed at many places on the Cape over the last 32 years. I must say this was the best. Just a perfect picturesque location with a rustic maritime vibe. We decided to go in the early fall this year when the rates, the temps and the crowds all go down. A nice relaxing time to visit the Cape, and Captain Jacks was just what we were hoping it would be.|Hope to be back next October!

I wanted to take a moment to mention a local business that we booked and briefly stayed at last week and to paint a realistic picture of our experiences.||Iāve been coming to Provincetown for close to 30 years now and have stayed virtually everywhere, from camping to 5-star luxury and everywhere in between. This year I was very excited to be able to book our annual Bear Week weeklong stay at Captain Jackās Wharf, a place I have ALWAYS wanted to stay at. We got in touch with the management company way back in February this year and booked one of the upper cabins for our trip last week. The pictures looked like the ultimate beach side bohemian getaway. The reviews were mostly positive. But what we eventually experienced was a nightmare and I wanted to share what occurred so hopefully others will read this and know the full story of what they should expect.||We got to CJs around 5pm last Saturday and were greeted by the property manager in a Covid Mask and a speedo about an hour later. No office, no place to check in. Both my boyfriend and dog wanted a place to lay down after our 4-hour drive from Boston. When we did meet with the property manager, we were just pointed upstairs to our cabin with a āYouāre up thereā and he walked away. When I asked about keys for our room, we got this answer āAre you crazyā¦No one locks their cabins here!ā to which I prefaced, that I know there are plenty of sticky fingers in town and we werenāt just going to leave our valuables unlocked every day. We were then told āthereās probably a lock up thereā, and there wasā¦a rusted padlock with the key rusted into it laying on a table. This was not a great first impression at all.|We headed up the rickety stairs and entered our cabin. Sand all over the floor, spiderwebs in the bathroom, but we knew it was going to be rustic. However, as we started to get settled in, we realized the extreme problem that was to comeā¦. the heat. Our cabin came with one broken window fan and inoperable skylights that were rusted shut, and windows that wouldnāt open (one did open but came off its track). The weather outside last week as you remember was HOT⦠it was in the high 80s, and it was equally as hot if not hotter in the room. We knew there wasnāt going to be A/C and to be prepared we brought three tower fans with us. After running extension cords to turn them on due to the one working outlet in the room, we noted the room wasnāt getting any coolerā¦conversely it was blowing hot air on us. It was VERY similar to what itās like in a hot pizza restaurant in a heat wave. Our dream vacation on the water quickly turned to a literal hell.||As night neared it didnāt get better. The bed was a mattress on top of a wood platform, the pillows may have been there for a decade. We both were lucky if we slept an hour that night. But the worst part was the rapid decline our dog was going through, she couldnāt settle, she couldnāt sleep, she wasnāt drinking or eating, and when she finally did have some ice water, she gagged and puked. We realized we had to get out of there. Sunday morning the temperature inside our room reached 92 degrees (there was a thermometer on the wall) We tried to call the property manager multiple times to tell him we were leaving but he never answered our calls. We lasted less than 24 hours at Captain Jackās and luckily escaped to the Crown Pointe for the rest of the week after spending another $3000.||Yes, our cost for Captain Jackās was $3000 for the week (the same as a week at the 5-star Crown Pointe) which we had to pay for with checks. Because of this we canāt dispute it with our credit card company, we most likely will count it as a loss. But I wanted to share this story with the greater Provincetown community as a cautionary tale about Captain Jackās Wharf. I know itās iconic, I know itās rustic and bohemian. But I also know now itās terribly managed, extraordinarily uncomfortable, and ultimately unsafe for humans and pets alike.

Amazing week at Captain Jacks Wharf! We stayed (3 people total) in Bridge cabin on the upper deck of the Wharf. The place is eccentrically beautiful and feels authentic. Superb views of the harbor, as well as east-end and west-end of Provincetown from all windows (including a window in each sleeping loft -- great to fall asleep with a breeze and moonlight streaming in). Nice quality bed linens and Dr Bronners soaps. The towels were OK. Kitchen was well equipped and comfortable to cook even dinners for friends. Bridge has a small private deck, suitable for ~ 6 people. The Wharf itself is one of the most interesting and scenically beautiful spots in P-town. Greg the manager was helpful. All in all, a wonderful time!

STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK. Three days into our week long stay we could no longer ignore the welts and incessant itching. Come to realize the bed and couch in the unit we stayed was completely INFESTED WITH SOME KIND OF INSECT. We let management know and were ignored for a full day. Two days later we were promised we would either be moved or the room would be bombed - neither ended up happening. We left our stay early. Getting home was no fun - we had to meticulously isolate and wash all things infested from our time at this place to make sure we didn't bring the infestation home.||||We WERE NOT reimbursed for our stay and no one would respond to our complaints. This place likes to present itself as bohemian, good vibes, a local hotel; it is nothing of the sort. The unit we stayed in is owned by a corporation in New York who's out to make a buck - zero hospitality or humanity. AGAIN, DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BRING AN INFESTATION HOME WITH YOU!

We went with friends for a day trip and stayed in Plymouth overnight. ||||There is municipal parking close by with full day parking for $10. ||||The ferry has two boats. They filled the smaller, older one first. It is a pleasant ride with very comfortable seats indoors downstairs but we were on the benches on the upper deck outside. The sun outside is very strong since it is also reflected from the water. We were on the first boat in both directions with the second boat leaving significantly later. Going out of Plymouth was interesting as was arriving at Provincetown but the trip in between was a little long. There were surprisingly few boats or anything else to see.||||On the return trip the second ferry was still loading when we left Provincetown. We had to be more than 10 minutes ahead of them but less than half was back they passed us and must have been back 20 minutes before. When they say fast ferry I guess they were talking about the other boat.||||It was still very pleasant and, weekdays, Provincetown is a fun beach town with great food, a lot of great local ice cream choices and great beaches. It was crowded but much lower key than years ago when I was there for a weekend but I don't know if the difference was because of it being a weekday or the times. I liked it better though.

Unique and tasteful. This place has more character than a casting call. You'll never get the sand out of your shoes after stating at a place like this. Every cabin so unique and interesting. Never losing the local feel and indigenous authenticity associated with Provincetown and its shores. Quite a necessary experience!

I loved the view of the sun going down as we sat outside. We started with a Caesar saled and crabcakes(small but tasty. I had lobster which was a wee bit overcooked but the vegatables were fresh and they have great oysters. I could have made a meal out of the oysters they were so good which my date had. Too full for dessert we had two martini's insted. If you love seafood this is a sure place to eat. The staff was very curtious and took good care of us. If not for food you must have a drink there and watch the amazing sunset.
